Max Bitrates Supported - Video

Hi All,

I am thinking of buying a S60 device like the N95 and I am curious to have it as a replacement for my PMP Creative Zen Vision m. In particular I can just copy over an avi file (E.g. Battlestar galactica from the web) and play it directly on the device (320*240) and my TV (with a cable it plays at 640 * ???). I do NOT need to transcode it. It supports and resizes down to the display size.

The new Creative Zen does not.

Ok so I was wondering CAN I do the same with any s60 devices be it the N95 N96 or anything else. Do I have to transcode ?

If so what are the limits on playable Bitrates and screen resolutions.

Thanks in advance.

Especially with Coreplayer installed you can just put an avi on the card and watch it (do it all the time). Realplayer does not play .avi but Smartmovie and DivX player do. The best quality for tv-out is the H264 format with a bitrate of about 1500. The phones (N95-1) videocam records at a bitrate of nearly 3000 so the bitrate shouldn't be a problem.

for MPEG4 Part2 (divx/xvid) / 10 (H.264) CorePlayer benchmarks, read my H.264 Bible. I've VERY thoroughly benchmarked everything on the n95.
