A note to say goodbye(?)

After many years of a happy relationship with Symbian, I have been seduced by a beauty from Cupertino. The drop dead gorgeous looks and the ease of use and feel within my hands have broken a diehard S60 users will and my N95 has been cast aside for the younger, better looking model. It may be a rocky first few weeks, with moments where I doubt my course of action (the sign up and activation process hasnt exactly helped the experience) but for the moment Im won over by my black 16GB iPhone 3G and my (carrier free) N95 is on the list of items to sell on fleabay.

Of course, things could all change ...

You can't put another sim in your iphone, but you can use your o2 sim in another phone. (great for tethering that unlimited data plan to a laptop as well)

So hang on the N95, if it is unlocked you can take the sim out of the iPhone and put it in your N95 for those moments when you go somewhere and need to record a video or send an MMS or just take a decent picture.

I must admit that when they add a decent camera to the iPhone (next year?) I shall most likely jump ship too.
I mean over 500 apps/games on the App Store launch day, with some great games like Super Monkey Ball makes Nokia's Download and N-Gage look pretty damn crap too be honest.

Now if they'd just hurry up and launch the 2.0 software for my iPod Touch I'll be happy

Well, iPhone is a completetly different phone. It can't be compared to the N95 in terms of functions even now more than one year after the relaease of N95. You can't even record a movie, send an mms, use it as a modem or send a file through bluetooth with the iPhone. It's a very basic phone in those respects and others. I could list another 30 basic function that all its competitors have that the iPhone doesn't.

I'm afraid it can't meddle in the battle between the higend S60 and Windows Mobile for about two years yet. But yes, it is beauty and very nice to play around with. I hope Nokia and the others can learn from those aspects of the iPhone. I'm eagerly awaiting the Nokia 'tube' series in the end of this year.

But that's the the simplicity and genious behind the Iphone. It doesn't need all those fancy apps to make it a hot item. We can sit here and say that the Iphone comes no where near the N95 in terms of functionality but it still won't change the fact that the Iphone will outsell all the N95's in one day. That's the beauty of marketing.

I am not a fan of the whole Apple ethics regardless of how much better suited any piece of their electronics may be to my lifestyle. I'm not a fan of Steve Jobs or the way he conducts business and would rather take a blackberry over the Iphone anyday if I absolutely had to settle between just those two.

That's just my two cents.

Well it's all a moot point at the moment, as O2 still unable to activate the sim card and probably won't until Monday. So I'm still on my N95. So much for being 3rd in line and picking one up first thing this morning.

Like the idea of switching out the sim and using the O2 one in the N95 for my laptop. Nice tip, thanks.

Sigh, another argument of form vs function.

****Spoiler Alert****
Do not read any further if you eagerly anticipate the outcome of the epic battle. If you have a favorite in this fight, do yourself a favor, read no further. The hardcore/realists may proceed..

You've been warned...

there is no winner in this battle (of form vs function, beauty vs brawn - but, you knew that already 😉
