E71 vs E61i

So I got an E71 this morning and have been comparing it to my trusty E61i. Does anyone have workarounds for my gripes / their own gripes to share / comments etc?

  • Love the size, and the design. Nearly all metal, and none of the tacky beige plastic that marred the E61i. Much less bricky than the E61i. Lovely and shiny, although I'm leaving greasy fingerprints all over it.
  • Having a lanyard mount is nice, and it even comes with one.
  • Nice to be rid of the Pop-port, although now I have to replace my Pop-port-to-3.5mm headphone adapter with a 2.5mm-to-3.5mm headphone adapter. Was there really nowhere to fit in that extra millimetre?
  • Everything feels much snappier. Web is now merely annoyingly slow instead of unusably slow 😊 It may be my imagination (or the fact that the browser itself is faster) but web pages seem to load quicker too.
  • GPS, obviously. I still don't really like Nokia Maps, but Google Maps works nicely.
  • Built-in radio is nice.
  • Comes with games! Including a collection of Solitaire games - finally, Freecell on my phone!
  • Access Point Groups no longer exist, which would be disappointing if I'd ever got them to work on the E61i, which I didn't. (Half the built-in software didn't support them.)
  • Active Idle font is annoyingly large.
  • Active Idle won't show me my most recent SMSes any more, which is a shame.
  • Messaging still sucks, so on goes Profimail (why do I have to pay for it again to install it on a new device?)
  • Calendar is a bit better - can actually show you a monthly view and a day's appointments at once - but also still sucks. Papyrus.

I've progressed from the e61 to e61i to e71. The e61i was missing the GPS and stereo bluetooth. If those were added, I'd stick with the e61i!

e71 is a nice small package, but the lack of the access point groups is a loss. I had them setup for Home and work Wifi followed by the data plan. Mail and other applications made use of them seamlessly. I've tried a similar psiloc program (??) on the e71 but have yet to get it to work successfully.
