While reading the MobiPocket Symbian forum to find out when (or if) Mobi programmers will fix the bugs that they introduced in the last version of MobiReader for Symbian 80 devices, someone mentioned a reader that I had not heard of before:
eReader (www.ereader.com)
Being willing to try another one (after all I have Tomeraider and RapidReader on my 9300), I downloaded and put this one through a trial.
Interesting feature: "themes" (parchment, marble, aluminum, etc. backgrounds) which seem to be easier on the eyes, but limits the readable size of fonts.
It also has more control over the presentation (line spacing, fonts, etc.) and even has scrolling like MobiReader.
One advertised feature, RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) doesn't seem to work on the 9300. From the description in the "Using eReader" built-in documentation, it sounds a lot like the RapidReader "flashing" of words on the screen.
Another drawback of the program is that it only finds ebooks in the "MyDocs" directories (internal memory or external MMC card).
Their website purports to be the "worlds largest", but from the counts of books that I viewed, I think that this claim is a gross exageration. They did however have some interesting contemporary content which they sell.
One aspect of their DRM (Digital Rights Management) that I do not like is that their books get encoded with your username and credit card number. So far I have only downloaded some of their free book samples, so I have not confirmed this.
The program interface is NOT intuitive, so reading the "About eReader" is a MUST. The advanced features use HOTKEYS more than the CBA buttons or MENU features.
Anyone else using eReader and would like to add their comments?
