newbie map question

Hi guys
Does the map system, work in the same way as the garmin/tomtom method i.e. no cost incurred to use, or is it like browsing the internet.

Hope this isn't a dumb question:frown:

Wow! i didn't see anywhere that it was going to cost. Perhaps I'll skip buying the phone then and get one I can load Garmin XT on since I have a copy. Any Nokia recommendations?
