Hello.
I took the Rogers (Canada) iPhone 3G plan to my phone, they are now trying to promote 3G networking, so I took it, 6GB' for $30 a month.
Its all nice, however, on my home screen I have this A GPRS icon (click image below) instead of the 3G icon, is it the same ?

Have N95 8GB' with the latest fw.
Thank you.
No thats the slowest of the 4 data conections (gprs, edge, 3g and 3.5g) at least is other here in uk
Only the North American version of the N95 8GB will support North American 3G radio frequencies.
If you have an N95 8GB intended for European or Asian markets, then it'll only work with GPRS/EDGE in North America.
Note also that for China, there's an N95 8GB without any 3G support at all.

Ok, But, from my provider (Rogers), does it matter?, from their side, i'm using 3G, right ?.
I'm asking because I'm afraid of high coast, although i have a 3G plan.
Actually, what you are saying is they sending 3G, but my euro version of N95 8Gb' gets it as AGRS, right ?, did I understand it correctly?.
Thank you.
If you don't have the NAM N95 8GB (i.e. -4) then it doesn't matter...you will never be using any 3G within North American. Your phone is not compatible so will only use EDGE at best.
You'll only have the antenna or E symbol.

But.. does the provider send 3G and I'm getting it as edge ?
Thank You.
Both the phone and the network have to support 3G and at the same frequencies.
A phone with European 3G frequencies will not work in Canada or USA as the networks there use different frequencies.
The 3G radio on the phone and the cellular base stations is entirely different from GSM/GPRS/EDGE radios. Essentially the phone has both a GSM radio (transceiver) and antenna, and a 3G/WCDMA radio and antenna. The GSM radio is used on GSM networks, and the 3G radio on the 3G networks.
Ok...
You guys scared the Sh** out of me...
I went down to rogers and I pay per data plan, so it doesn't matter what comes out in my phone, if its 3G or edge.
Right now, I do not care about using Edge, I still have lots of WiFi around.
so... its all good.
Thank You all.
