BBC Iplayer now working perfect!!

Just letting you guys know that iplayer now works perfectly as long as you use the iphone spoof hack on your n95 (from symbian-freak). They stream in .3gp in realplayer and are spot on in terms of fps and quality. There is one downside though, the bbc are not letting you stream over 3g (same as with 3g iphone) so its wifi only for now. 😊

How does everyone go about signing unsigned apps now? I've tried the SymbianSigned website method, but with no success.

i've signed this installed this and nothing.

try to reinstall this and i get an error saying i do not have permissions.

so how do i use this then?

once its installed you dont have to do anything all it does is let web pages think you have an iphone so when it renders the page you get slightly different layout ie go to www.google.co.uk on your handset and with this installed it fits perfectly to the page etc without the patch it dosent

so sites that require you to have an iphone ie bbc iplayer , will now let you use them , and if a page has been made speacially for the iphone like alot will be then you get the nicely rendered version on your n95

its pretty good and could come in handy as more and more sites become made for the iphone 😊

hope that makes a bit of sense

that's the thing, i have seen more people with N95's yet the crappy iPhone gets all the good modded pages for it

Yeah, it seems pretty bad that the BBC license fee (I assume) is used to develop an iPlayer platform for one single device that's only available on one single network. Especially as they even had to remove the DRM in order to get it to work, which then allowed people from all over the world to access the TV for free that I have to pay for!

hi I have installed the above file but get the error message 'unable to connect to server file not found' when real player starts to load any ideas what i'm doing wrong :con?

unfortunately, I had this too. Previously, I-player did work using flash lite although the video didn't fit and had a terrible frame rate

Same error as i get :frown:

ah well never mind. (dirty words coming up) I have just ordered an apple iphone from the carphone people so i'll be able to watch it on that wifi permitting. and maybe use the sim in my n95 for use on my laptop 😊

It used to work through a variety of proxies - not sure if that's still the case.

I'm using a proxy to access and download stuff off the iPlayer on my PC, never got it to work on the Wii though. Haven't tried on my phone yet.

I'll keep doing this until the BBC decide to let non-UK people subscribe (I'll gladly pay as an ex-pat) or they close this type of access.

One of the problems is that not all the content advertised is available (e.g. House of Saddam), and even then sometimes the servers are unavailable even with an iPhone (most of this week), but with the iPhone browser patch I can now view content perfectly over wifi. (Tested on The Mighty Boosh)

You're right. But it did work, honestly! It opened the stream into Real Player and worked very nicely. It gave a warning that it would only work over WiFi, but other than that, it was fine.

Let's hope it's moving from beta to full release rather than being shelved.

I can't get this to work, i've installed the iphone hack so can get to the iplayer site ok with wifi but when realPlayer opens any of the links it just says "loading" then "Unable to connect to server. Server time out". Same thing happens on the live or beta websites.

Any ideas.

Ok, I owe wesbar an apology, this does indeed work very well. I guess as they are different feeds to the std version and it's beta, it wouldn't work perfectly.

I was able to get this to work using Flash lite and the std iplayer, but the picture fell outside the viewable area and the frame rate was probably about 5fps

Cheers Wesbar, I'm going to see if this is watch able through my TV. 3G's got to be close

This is a BBC problem and affects all mobile users intermittently (including iPhones). Keep trying and it works eventually.
