In a moment of weakness a couple of months ago (maybe it was the painkillers while I was enduring my kidney stone operations?) I went and bought a copy of Picsel Viewer for my Nokia 9300.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I had a few disappointments:
1. It was unable to view "large" .pdf files (it took FOREVER to load and navigate within it) that Adobe Reader for Symbian had no problems with.
2. The program requires and installs LM PRO (License Manager) which loads a process "lmsmssrv" on system reboot or any time that you start the program.
I became aware of this process while troubleshooting a KERN-EXEC 3 error with another application (FYI...eReader's RSVP feature).
What is bothersome is that when you search for this process name on the internet, there are many websites which identify the PC version of this as a trojan program.
There is no indications that the Symbian 80 version which came with Picsel Viewer is malware, but it does bother me that there was no indication before I bought the program that it would come with this "extra" process.
It would have been nice if Picsel Viewer would "unload" this process when it exits to save space in the system.
I have experimented with "killing" the process with TaskSpy and it doesn't appear to affect system operation as Picsel Viewer reloads it as necessary.
On the positive side, however, Picsel Viewer has a WAY-COOL redeeming feature--its ability to view and dynamically zoom in and out in large images.
I have a high-resolution test pattern image which while zooming and panning can beat the pants off an iPhone!
