A really really easy way to install N-Gage on a compatible phone

If you have an N-Gage-compatible phone (at the moment that means the N81, N81 8GB, N82, N95 or N95 8GB) you may like to take a look at this article over on AAN which details an ultra-simple method for installing the N-Gage application. It works entirely through the phone's browser, and doesn't require a computer at all. We've mentioned this method before in other articles, but it seems a lot of people missed it and Nokia doesn't really publicise it either, so here it is again in greater detail.

Read on in the full article.

Is it really that difficult to do this on the phone that a tutorial is needed?

You would be AMAZED how few people know about the mobile installation site at all. It's only mentioned once on the official site and that's in tiny letters.

Nokia hasn't publicised the mobile installation method in any way that I'm aware of, even though it's much easier. The official site concentrates almost entirely on the more complicated computer method which requires using PC Suite (on Windows) or the phone's own application manager (on Mac).

The method in the article doesn't require anything except the phone's browser.

Heck I'm no tech head myself buat I've never touched the pc regarding anytg N-Gage.

That's great, but a lot of people don't know about the browser method, and it's better to hear something twice than not at all.

Every time I've added links to this tutorial from other articles a lot of people click on those links, so there's clearly demand for this tutorial.

Also, a lot of people still ask me really basic things like how much the N-Gage app costs. You and I know it's free, but a lot of people don't even know that. There's a huge information gap here and AAN is trying to fill it.

Cool. What about unofficial but still fully capable phones, like 6120 Classic, 6220 Classic?

Ok Tzer2, understood. But the thing is I'm very new 2 s60 myself. I've only started using it since early ths year. Whenever I use the phone for browsing, I've never actually thought of it as a phone. It seems the same as browsing on pc 4 me. So downloading stuffs is the same process wether I use the phone or pc. Just click 'download' and let the thg do its stuff. Seems pretty straightforward. I'm a bit puzzled why it's a problem for a lot of people since I'm a bit of a noobie myself😉. Btw, I ussually use either opera 8.65 or opera mini for stuff like this.

It is really straightforward... when you know the mobile site exists! 😉

If Nokia advertised the mobile installation site properly I wouldn't have bothered with the tutorial. It's weird that they don't advertise it.

Apparently though the upcoming N-Gage phones will have a direct download when you click on the N-Gage icon, and eventually they will have the N-Gage app built into them so there's no downloading at all.

Well, they're not officially supported at all, so there's literally no guarantee from Nokia that any of the games will work properly on them. You can hack the phones to get the N-Gage app to install, but I don't know how reliable it is in the long term (even the officially supported phones still have quite a lot of bugs with the app).
