Samsung today announced the high-end, featured pack Samsung INNOV8 (model number i8510). It is an S60 slider with a 8 megapixel, autofocus camera with dual LED flash. The phone runs S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 and other key features include a 2.8 inch screen, WiFi, 16GB of on board flash memory, optical sensor, integrated GPS, accelerometer sensor, and DNSe audio technology.

Hmmm. Looks everything the N96 should have been.
Bigger battery, better looking, good speakers...
I hope this wipes the floor with the N96. Samsung have the common sense to include a 1200mah battery and still make it slimmer than the N96.
This makes nokia's decision look very silly.
i don't get this at all it looks like a nokia phone it's like cell phone makers are not even trying anymore, now slider phones are the next big thing why cuase the n95 did so well? come on Samsung grow up who's going to buy that anyway????
I do hope this does well, having many manufacturers supporting S60 is very important for its long term future, and it gives S60 fans more choice without forcing them to give up their favourite software platform.

It's meant to look like a camera, because the 8mp camera is its most prominent feature. A lot of people will buy an expensive phone on the strength of its camera, many people did that with the N95.
Will ship with 2 embedded games: FIFA 08 (EA) and Asphalt (Gameloft).
Considering this is an S60 3rd Edition phone, will these be identical to the N-Gage versions (but with online stuff removed)?
Did anyone else see that top-right picture of this phone with the keypad slid out and think "Hmm, Nokia 7650"? Or is it just me and my obsession that the 7650 is still the best S60 phone?
Looks like a stunner - I might even learn to live without QWERTY if the keypad is nice. However, I'm not a fan of the flat RAZR style keypads that might just be the dealbreaker.
However, the win for Symbian will be if the networks take it up - if SE are heading to WinMo (especially if UIQ eventually dissapears) then we'll need an alternative to Nokia if only to keep them on their toes.
I think it looks absolutely stunning. They really are on a roll lately aren't they. In terms of design, I don't think any1 comes close to Samsung at the moment, not even the Iphone. First the Omnia and now this? They're making me drool. I sincerely hope this phone will be as good as it looks. I think I'm ready to dump my N95 now..
Want one!!! NOW!!! Go Samsung!
Someone clearly forgot to mention the OMAP2430 contains the "enabled" PowerVR MBX lite (similiar to Apple) pity Nokia just have not used it yet, oh well maybe they will use SGX within OMAP3 next year....
phone looks sexy!, but why bother with 8mpx without optical zoom and xenon flash?
That's a more compelling device than I expect to see from Samsung, honestly. Mmm, the battery size...
Hoping to find out, in no specific order:
- the weight (Would it have been too much to include?)
- screen resolution (Come on! Physical size alone is only half the story...)
- the expected price
- how the camera really compares to current top end N-series?!? (before N78 or N96, too) Too bad about only (dual) LED flash.

Bah, silly me. It was mentioned, QVGA. That's a little disappointing for 2.8 inches but kind of understandable for S60... Nokia needs to move beyond first. (Again. My current phone is E60.)

Yes Samsung is really on the cutting edge here (previously it was more catch up or just behind). The G810 was nice, but not quite there.
I'm trying to get more information on the phone. Weight, price and camera sample are all on my list of things to find out. I'll update the story and make a note in the thread when (if) I get this.
There's an obvious comparison to be made with the N96 of course.

No Ewan has a thing about the 7650 too. I guess I can see it, but this phone is quite a bit bigger (though is actually thinner).
Eat your heart out Nokia, they've beaten you in your own game, this is the first S60 which doesn't have a feature or two missing.
Kudos to Samsung, you've really grown beyond your girly featureless phones. This baby is PERFECT.
This is going to make upgrade time interesting; had my heart set on the E71, but this could win it. I would like to see picture quality first though, compared to other phones on the market.
But where's the Xenon Flash?!?!?! What use is an 8MP cam without one (same goes for the N96)! If only Nokia could fit the the N96's insides into such dimensions with such a massive battery, speically since I fear the DVB-H will suck it dry within the hour (another missing feature)!! It also looks like a fat massive Nokia 6500 Slide... And that phone is chubby in its current "small" form!
I think I'm going to stick to my N82 for the coming couple of years as there aren't any revolutionary phones out there yet! However this Samsung is certainly on the top of my "next-phone" list.
WB
The specs make this device beastly. Not touch but specwise, wipes the floor with teh iphone (3g). Will be a major competitor with the n96 if sammy have a good marketing campaign (same os under the case with a few tweaks but a better camera and other things).
Looks good, hope it starts off fairly bug free.
What about TV-Out?
The next few months is "upgrade" heaven.
Samsung INNOV8 (i8510)
Samsung Omnia
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch Diamond
Nokia N96
3G iPhone
Anymore?
And there is a rumour Nokia will be releasing a true N95 successor. Not the N96 which is just a comparable device like the n82. The successor will blow away the competition... Even this latest Samsung... Put it this way... Like when the n95 was first released 17 months ago it was truly ground breaking technology so will the successor... Say no more...
Found it! My new phone . Thanks Samsung.

Some of the online shops where this handset has appeared have TV-Out on the feature list, but the Samsung press site does not have any mention of this.
A couple of others bits of info. The camera shutter opens and closes automatically when you start / close the camera application.
The camera application supports shooting video at 1/4 and 1/8 speeds. Effectively slow motion video recording.
Thanks Rafe,
Here is a great video to demonstrate the slow mo function. My god the quality is just fantastic...
Even the the still shots taken look v. good on the screen. This looks like a real winner...

There is a lot of potential for catching criminals with slow motion... Or even UFO's. lol
"There is a lot of potential for catching criminals with slow motion..."
Dude, the criminals still move full speed, it's just your video of them grabbing your shiny new phone that will be slow... :P
good to see a lens cover too! why is there NOT an n95 8gb case with an integrated lens cover yet??
"Samsung today announced the high-end, featured pack Samsung INNOV8"
What's a "featured pack"?
Seriously, don't you guys have an editor?
It's only because you *later* mention "Feature Pack 2" that I knew you weren't trying to refer to the OS and had missed out the number.
Wow, what i really love about it is the menus. Its like a new OS.
