Hello
i have a problem with the gps on my N95
for about a week i noticed that my gps doesnt connect.. it finds satellites but doesnt connect to them.
so today i took my friends N95 to test it and while his connected after a few seconds to 5 satellites with full black line mine just found them but didnt connect (picture..) and i gave up after about 10 minutes.
i recently changed my panel so i guess that could be the only reason for this.
so i tried playing arround with the gps antenna (even thoe i didnt see anything wrong with it..) but still didnt manage to make it work.
anyone have a idea what to do?
please help.

thanks.
With "i recently changed my panel so i guess that could be the only reason for this." do you mean that you changed the phone covers, or something else?
If you did, the new phone covers might be made of material or painted with material that blocks the antenna.
i tried it also with the cover off and still no luck..
I'm also having this problem - finding satellites (same satellite info screen as the OP) but no GPS lock.
I've just got a new handset and I've heard that the first time you try to get a lock it can take a while, but I've left it outside with the keypad open for about 10 minutes and still nothing.
I've also heard that some handsets can be more problematic than others, could it just be a fault with my handset?
press star hash 0000 hash and get back to us with the firmware , after a certain firmware they introduced agps which connects to the internet to help aid your gps lock on it only uses a tiny amount of data like a kb or 2 kb but this will help you get a lock on much much quicker
the 1st n95 i had didnt get a lock on very quick at all i sold it , the one i has now gets a lock on in simmilar time to my bluetooth gps reciever or maybe even quicker but it using agps
id recomend checking your firmware and getting back to us mate
some gps recievers apparently come loose inside the phone making them not work correctly this could also be the fault
I got latest firmware 21.0.0.016
i would like to try playing around with the gps recievers but i dont know how it looks.. where can i find a picture of it? i searched for it but didnt find..
The bottom plastic (with the USB port on) actually has the GPS antennae attached to it. By replacing the phones housing youve probably removed the antennae.
i know about the antenna and actually thats the only plastic i didnt change.. and the gps anetnna is still there..
hi mate if your intrested in taking your phone apart and trying to look at the gps antenna and the connectors then this may help you find it and fix it mate 😊
http://www.n95users.com/forum/its-broke/6400-nokia-n95-service-manual.html
thanks to the guy that posted it on the n95users site not me 😊
what parts of the phone did you change??
just the back battery cover and the back housing??
have you tryed it with the normal oem one back on??
have you tryed re installing your firmware and then not backing up your data just your contacts , then installing the apps you need one by one??
have you tryed it with agps and normal gps to see if this helps??
you could also try a hard format of the phone , switch it off and while holding the buttons three , star , green dial key boot the device back up and hold the buttons till you see the date and time set screen come up
nice 1 mate good luck
thanks
i actually have this service manuall but it doest show where the actuall gps chip is lockated.. only the antenna..
i changed the back housing, the and slider housing+keypad
didnt try yet with original housing but dont really think it will help
i will try formatting the card+phone and if no luck also reinstalling firmware..
hard format you ment hard reset? and what exactly does this do?
i call it hard format because you are forcing the phone to format itself to factory settings
this will take the phone back to factory ie your phone will be like you updated it via nsu 😊
just dont do a backup as if you haev a problem with a conflicting piece of software on the phone if you do a backup you could backup the problem again to your handset
id do a hard format then see if the gps works with the gps data app on the phone or nokia maps , if it did then id install software one by one checking the gps to see if it was working still mate
i only metioned the oem cover out of intrest i swapped a fascia once and i couldnt get a signal to make calls on a older phone , i swapped thr covers and my signal came back
failing all this id take a trip to the service centre it will cost though as your handset has been taken apart voiding warranty etc
let us know how you get on it could help other users
nice1
Update:
so after formating the phone and reinstalling firmware without success i replaced the gps antenna and now it works like a charm 😊
