As above really, bought the phone as my n80 died, its locked on three so will need it unlocked. Do i have to phone three to get the code?
Cheers

Hi,

here's the instructions...

http://ask3.three.co.uk/SRVS/Data/Hutch/KnowledgeBases/Ask3/document/web/factsheets/unlock_factsheets/unlock_nokiae61.pdf

you will need an unlock code from "3" before carrying out the above.
iirc, they will ask for 15 for the priviledge of handing the code over.

i'm not sure whether there's an alternative unlocking method for the
E61 as mine is due for upgrade in September (getting a N95 8GB)
and i'd like to get the E61 unlocked and keep it as a spare.

Hi,

i don't know if it would work with the E61, but i visited a local
independent phone shop a few months ago and they had a
small "device" which bypassed the sim lock on a N95.

basically, it amounted to a small PCB which had the same dimensions
as a sim card and is inserted between the sim and the phone.

from what i gather it overides the sim lock without the need to
physically unlock the phone so when you take it out, the phone
reverts back to the default sim lock.

i can't see why it *shouldn't* work with the E61 too...unless someone
else on here can explain why it wouldn't.

hmmm,

spent the best part of 30 minutes on the phone this lunchtime
talking to a "3" telephone assistant.

seeing as my contract is well over 12months old i decided to ask
for an unlock code (i'm told it's 15). after spending what seemed
like an eternity, i was asked for my IMEI number, which gave her
after pressing *#06#.

she then told me that my IMEI number is already registered with
another customer? htf can that be? i thought the IMEI number was
unique to each phone?

i've even checked inside the phone and the printed IMEI tallies
with the one when *#06# is pressed.

i'll have another go tonight (my ear had started to cook during
the lunchtime call) and see if i can get it sorted.

*edit* - bugger, it would appear that my phone arrived
from 3 in the wrong box. i've never bothered checking
before but the IMEI on/in the phone doesn't match the
IMEA on the box/welcome paperwork...i am awaiting a call
from 3 to get it sorted.

three are a p**S take like, wont even change the phone to my name according to the guy I bought it from. Would have thought that was neccissary as I own it now. Apparently they would only do that if i stayed with them... I like my O2 genie tarrif at the min tho, Spoke to one phone shop, going to get some second oppinions!

sorted.

finally got "3" to change the IMEI on my account to the one
that's in my phone.

got the code (15) and entered it....phone is now unlocked!!
