Newsgroups and forums synchronisation
On Monday 26th February 2007, Symbian Developer Network will merge and
synchronize the newsgroups and the forums. At 10am the old newsgroups will
cease to be available, with replacements coming online later in the day.
Once the new newsgroups are up and running, whenever you post a message, it
will be duplicated on the forums and vice versa. A major benefit of the
merger will be that the entire newsgroup archive dating back to 1999 will
become available and searchable via the SDN website.
In order to provide you with this new functionality we have had to change
the newsgroup addresses. The new addresses are as follows:
discussion.general
discussion.symbiansigned
discussion.tools
discussion.cplusplus
discussion.java (note lower case)
discussion.connectivity
discussion.hardware
discussion.miscellaneous
discussion.pips
feedback.apis
feedback.docs
feedback.sdks
You will need a standard NNTP newsreader running on your computer. The
discussion newsgroups NNTP server address is: developer.symbian.com
New functionality
We have also added functionality to the site within the new 'My SDN'
section. Once logged into the SDN the 'My SDN' section will provide you
with the ability to change your password and update your profile details.
Within the 'My SDN' section you can also send private messages to other
users who have made their profiles visible. Just select the user from the
user directory in the left-hand menu, click on 'view profile' then click on
'Send a message' under 'Interact & collaborate' in the right-hand menu.
Messages can be sent whether a user is online or not and you can see if you
have any new messages if you check the top right-hand corner of the homepage
when you return to the site.
