Like Steve, I'm not unhappy with the pricing model of Nokia Maps. Most of the time I know whereI 'm going and only have the odd month's worth. (having said that, it's probably mounting up by now and a daily option would be nice).
However, I'm off to France next week and had intended to just subscribe to Europe for the month and be entriely happy. What worries me is the fact that Maps 2 seems pretty useless without the network for searching - that's no problem in the UK on an "unlimited" (as it were ! :con? ) tariff but it may prove expensive in roaming charges in France.
Has anyone used Maps 2 in France and either

Thanks in advance.
You have stumbled upon my 2 biggest rants about nokia maps 😉
Im a voda customer as well, and I cannot find the roaming costs for data anywhere on their site.
If I were you, I wouldnt chance it, Id ring them and ask for clarifacation.
Its going to cost a bomb, since outside a plan its 1 per 15mb, and 2 per MB after that. Ouch. So its very possible its more than that when roaming.
Here's what I could glean - it sounds like 5/day but if I use less than a Mb (which I presume I will) is it less ? - it's typical Vodafone lack of clarity.
15 days at a fiver is not on 😮
Your 5 pays for the first MB you use every day (that's about 40 pages). Because we want you to get the most from your Mobile Internet experience we'll throw in a further 14MB and it won't cost you a penny more. That means you get a generous 15MB a day for just 5.
What if I use less than 1MB?
You'll only be charged for the pages you view. So four pages, for example, would cost you about 50p.
What with all the does it doesn't it questions about locked to card/internal screen/internal GPS etc for the paid for solutions, I think I'm just going to stick to Sportstracker while cycling on the E90 and buy a PND - way less grief.
I would be very careful. That sounds remarkably cheap and almost like UK Pricing if you don't have a data tarrif.
Typically look at paying around 10 per meg for data abroad with no bundles that dont cost ROFL
I stand corrected.
Basically its 5 per meg.
Data is 5 per meg if you use their "internet APN" ( check which one your using )
If you use their "WAP" apn you pay 5 a meg capped at 5 a day ( for the first 15meg) so if you use half a meg you pay 2.50.
If you use 2 meg you pay 5.
10 meg 5
13meg 5
16 meg 10
I would imagine though the WAP APN allows you do sod all other than access basic web services on Port 80. This mean half the apps on your phone wont work unless they go via the HTTP protocol. I would check that Nokia Maps actually works via the WAP APN in the UK before you rely to much on it.
You can't preload the maps with nokia maps loader?
You can however using assisted gps will cost you a few k unless you want to sit for years waiting for a lock.
Hi,
I'm French and have a 6210 Navigator. Here, we have maps pre-loaded in the phone and the map downloader is disabled in the phone.
You have to use Nokia Map Loader to upload the map of France.
For the A-GPS data, it's free with SFR (Vodafone partner) so no problem to activate it.

How long exactly does it takes without the a-gps, with only GPS activated? I plan to buy a nokia 6220, I am just curious

Yes probably free for an SFR customer but for someone who is in roaming in France even if SFR is a partner of Vodafone he may have preferencials prices but I don't think it will be free
