Hello all-
I am new to the forums, but I've browsed around AAS quite a bit. I am looking to replace my iPhone, which I've had for about a year, with a symbian phone. Mostly because I'd like more freedom in customizing my phone without having to jump through jailbreak hoops, and I was fine with the walled garden and all until software 2.0, which has driven me nuts with slowdowns, plus the apps are a mixed bag.
None of these are dealbreakers but I think it's time for a change, and I've always been fascinated with Symbian from afar. I would have probably bought something Symbian last year if I hadn't bought the iphone.
I have a few amazon gift certificates, and I am hoping to use them on an unlocked american version nokia. The big question is which one. I am sorely tempted by the E71, but I'll be using it for personal use, not business. Just personal email, web browsing, texting, etc, and maybe some music and video. (I dont use video much on my iPhone and I figure I will either continue to use the iPhone as my primary music device or use my shuffle or something similar. I might keep some music on the E71 for times when I am out and about though.)
I really like the E71, but would I be better off with something more consumer focused like the N95? Aside from the T9 input it looks great, but I am pretty spoiled by qwerty on my old treo and my iPhone.
Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas? Sorry this post is so long and rambling, and I look forward to participating in the community here!
Hi questionfear,
i have changed from an 8GB iPhone to an E71 a few days ago and i must say that I am very happy with my decision. Why?
I have started with the iPhone on Firmware 1.0.1 when jailbraking was a real adventure. Then i followed every firmware and watched my iPhone grow. But at least there were a lot of functions missing. Not a single function which made me sell it, but in the sum i more and more asked myself why. 2 features have been very cool on the iPhone and they can not be topped by any other phone.
Usability and iPod-likeness, and these are the only drawbacks if you want to switch to the E71. The E71 is way ahead all other Symbians and Treos i have met, and much much faster. But it does not reach the coverflow and ipod effect from the iPhone. But everything else is topped by the E71, from the information rich home screen, the stand-by one button press screen and all the other features like using your phone as a mass storage, sending bluetooth vcards and select mp3 files as ringtones. And like his Stevness told, there is one thing more, believe it or not, but the E71 even tops the build quality of the iPhone, yes it really does.
Dont get me wrong, the iPhone is definitely a revolution and it forced all the other manufacturers to imprve their phones, but by comparing all pros and cons, i am really happing with switching and i realy appreciate in the freedom the Nokia gives i doing everythng i want.
Ciao G.
P.S.: To sum it up, i did not switch only for MP3 ringtones or bluetoothed vcards, but there are these situations when you are really happy to know, damn i really want to have this Buck Roggers theme for the next party just to impress my sci-fi nerd friends. 😉
I just couldn`t separate from iPhone and wanted E71 too much so I kept iPhone and bought E71 😊
