Guys please help.... i have an acount with yahoo. receiving mail is ok but when i am sending it is not working... ok i have changed it to a free smtp server which is smtp.hotpop.com and used my isp's but now it says incorrect to, cc, bcc now i have to go to a cafe to retaype everything and send it there. what can i do to solve this upgrading to 4.xx will solve it? or do i need to download anything? is there any third party email stuffs available? like eudora for 9210? thanks in advance guys![ This Message was edited by Rafe on 2002-03-16 1248 ]

I may be way off beam here (wouldn't be the first time), but if it is saying that there is a problem with cc and bcc then it would have nothing to do with your SMTP server.

Are you entering only the first name of the contact? If so, could the contacts be in a different contacts database?

I tested this and tried

To [email protected][email protected]
Cc Eric

And it complained about Eric (poor sod).

Anyway, my only suggestion is that you make sure you are using 'fully formed' e-mail addresses (ie, [email protected])[email protected]) in your contacts databases (no spaces in the address an' all 'at).

Can anybody here suggest whether or not there's an issue if an SMTP server doesn't support Cc or Bcc?[ This Message was edited by TANKERx on 2002-03-15 1947 ]

Thanks for the reply. but i entered a right email address

to [email protected][email protected]
Subject test
contents are
1234
but when i click send, it connects and it has an activity then it disconnect with these
"problem sending message
mail message has an invalid "to"."Cc" or Bcc" address"

i really entered the right address. i'm very sure of that. is any reset button to get it back to factory settings? or upgrading 4.13 is the solution?

thanks you very much sir!

Hmm.... if you want to restore factory settings you can try the 2 solutions

1) When you reboot 9210 (removing the battery) and when the picture of 2 hands appear press CTRL + Shift + I and it will ask you to delete all ini files... click yes
and then you have to reconfigure your e-mail and internet settings...
2) If the above doesn't work you can format your 9210 to restore to factory settings!
WARNING By formating it you will have to reinstall ALL programs from the begging and you will loose all contacs and messages...
If you still want to do it reboot your device and when the two hands appear press CTRL + Shift + F and you can format it...

Do you use the option 'Send mail to own address' (Tools->Settings->E-mail->Advanced)? If so, try if you can send the mail with that option off. If that works, then check your e-mail address. (Tools->Settings->E-mail).

Hope this helps.

(TANKERx - you are not way off beam here, but it is possible that the SMTP server complains on a MAIL TO header and that the Comm translates this to a user-readable error message)

A bit of a shot in the dark but does that mail server require SMTP authentication? IF it does it then that might be the problem as the 9210 doesn't support that.

I have got both the 'rejected' and 'invalid cc, bcc' messages.

The documentation does not state it does not support SMTP authentication - but
this appears to be so.
My 9210 is firmware 3.54 does 3.62 or
4.13 work - anyone?
The problem is due to heavy spam worldwide now - everyone is using authenticated STMP. So we cannot
send email anymore.
So Nokia had better fix it and tell people
about this problem.

I don't know if this is relevant to you, but some providers support pop-before-smtp authentification. That is first retrieve mail via pop (even if nothing is there) and then use the SMTP server. Your IP address will then be trusted since you authenticated through POP.
