It's been a while since I updated my (smart)phone-choosing Grid, but I bit the bullet and this now has the iPhone 3G, the Nokia E71, the Nokia N78 and the HTC Touch Diamond, among others. How does it do for you?

hey steve.
Ran it for me. Just like that. I only looked at the parameters and its importance so that i do not get biased towards my phone.
It have e71 410 points and 392 to n95 8gb and n 82. Well i own n 82 and probably would have taken e71, if it was available at my time of purchase!
Nice and I score almost the phone I have (the 8GB version is recommended). It would be nice to see the score of a non-smartphone in the row. Just as a reference point. And of course I hope to see the XpressMedia 5800/Tube appear in there real soon now ;^) End august?
isn't there any samsung phone that qualifies for this grid? maybe the omnia, or i810?
interesting. I've just switched my N95 for an iPhone and, 1st place went to the iPhone and 2nd to the N95. I do like it when I'm right. 😉 (well actually the E71 came second but I'd never have got that.)
no matter how i twist the scoring, i cannot get the iphone to be a winner. unless i score 'NOT' on basic needs like battery life, cost, video recording, to-do-tasks, and the likes...he,he,he..funny.
did the test without looking very close on what it was supposed to do, e71 won, with the n95-8gb second. Last week I decided to upgrade my aging e61 and after a few days of considering the n95-8gb (because of tv out) vs the e71 (because of battery, keyboard, size and toughness) I went for the e71
Yes, the Samsung INNOV8 will be there by the end of August.
The iPhone always comes off worst in comparisons, unless there's emphasis on user 'experience' and ease of use for beginners.... Maybe I should tweak my categories! Watch this space.
I changed the window pane to only show the left column. My results:
350: N95-8GB
350: N95
Here's the best part: In July last year, when the iPhone first came out - I went to my local importer and bought the N95-1. Loved it.
Here's the next funny part. Again this year when the iPhone 3G came out - I went to Buy.com and bought then N94-4. Still in love with it...
So far this Grid is pretty accurate. Twice in a row - at least for post purchases. Should I use this first before getting a new phone next year?
Seems like no matter how I alter the importance the E71 comes out on top and the N95 8GB second. Interesting because I have the E71 and have had an N95 8GB and the N82 and I'd score the N82 higher than the N95. Besides screen size, I can't see any advantage of the N95 over the N82. Similarly I'm thinking about getting another N82 as a second phone as the E71 camera was more than disappointing for me. It sometimes takes worst photos than my previous E61i.
First of all thanks a lot for the Grid. But sure there are questions regarding it. First, by what means size of third party software catalogue for WM can be the same as for s60 3rd? I use PPC and Nokia for number of years and do like to use as much 3rd party progs as possible. It is tenfolds difference in numbers and qualities. Second, daimond captures video in CIF 352x288 - 30 frames per second. Then, how is that e61i, 71 and others have the same score or even more? And last, "One handed operation" - my opinion only - if you stay in touchflo, then it is easily one handed and much more one handed then iphone because of sizes.

It's not all about numbers of apps. Both scenes are mature and pretty full...
>>Second, daimond captures video in CIF 352x288 - 30 frames per second. Then, how is that e61i, 71 and others have the same score or even more?
That may be its spec, but I've taken test footage with all the devices and HTC's camera consistently underperform.

Only real novices doing trivial things can stay in TouchFlo though, so that's not really relevant.
I recently chose a black N82 over an N95 (8GB), and I am fairly confident it was the right choice, but I can't seem to get it to come out on top, instead it's the E71 and N95.
I did notice some strange things, comparing the two:
- Local connectivity; N95 scores 10, N82 5. The only difference is the ir port right?? I think 10 for the N95 is too much by the way, because of its lack of USB2.
- Speed/Multitasking: I would have said the N82 and N95 8GB would score the same, and both higher than the N95, on account of their extra ram. Or am I missing something?
- cost: at least in Holland, the N82 and N95 cost just about the same, both new and 2nd-hand (my 3 week-old N82 was 225).
Coming from a 6290, these were the (distinguishing) factors for me:
A good auto-focus camera including video was a must, battery life as well (comfortably getting through a day on a single charge, I remember the AAS article on it). Then there was design and robustness, and 3D accelerator&accelerometer presence. And cost of course, that can get double weighting at least I'd say.

The E71 came out winner for me (295) with E90 being the distant 2nd (275). However, I feel you should include Gaming as a criteria, as smartphone gaming is gradually becoming more and more popular. Including the gaming perspective, I feel N95 (both variants) would have definitely scored better (both standing at 255). The E71 and E90 are very good devices though. And another shocker! Why does the N82 has weight 5 for local connectivity, while N95 has 10? Just due to IR? Who uses that these days, except some UBER geeks who don't even want to use the remote that came with their TV.
Good comments all. I can feel a revamp of the Grid coming on, with some new categories and new definitions for some of the existing ones!

Well regarding the 3D accerelator there needs to be 2 questions
1) Presence
iPhone
N82
N95
N95 8GB
2) Usage
iPhone
the others "a bit but not much!"
