Might be a faulty iPhone tbh, I have my N95 and iPhone sat here in front of me and I have 4 bars with the iPhone and 3 bars with my N95, I'm in Newcastle right now, maybe o2 have better coverage in the North?
On why I moved from the N95 to the iPhone 3G, tbh it was simplicity. I got sick and tired of my N95 getting sluggish and waits between certain actions, browsing the web (Something I do often) was painful on the N95, with most web pages auto shutting the browser after prolonged use. A Restart usually cured this but it was a right PITA having to do this after every session with the N95, the iPhone in comparison is just a breath of fresh air, the damn thing just works.
On my N95 I possibly have about 3 useful apps, and 2 pointless ones for entertainment. That's with a years ownership, with my iPhone and 2 weeks of ownership I have about 30 useful apps and 12ish entertainment apps. And about 4 I actually paid for, the rest being free.
This coupled with the bigger screen, better music player, easy to use features and general WOW factor - not to mention unlimited data is why I chose it over my N95.
Does this mean everyone should get one? No, does it mean I hate my N95 now and think Nokia should die? Not at all, in fact I severely miss MMS as me and my g/f regurlarly send pics to each other. And of course the age old debate of the cam, while the iPhone's isn't bad - it's no 5mpx Carl Zeiss that's for sure, but those things weren't big enough for me to ignore the pure sex that is the iPhone 3G.
Thanks,
Iain
i toatally agree with you on the web browsing on the n95 for me its ok but could be much much better i havent used the iphone myself but people say that the browsing is awesome on the iphone
iam glad your happy with it and the unlimited data plan does seem like a good 1 😊
i also agree that the n95 can be slightly sluggish but since v21 it has much improoved for me and is like a different handset
anywyas i hope you enjoy your handset iam still loving my n95 and what it can do and id never be able to use an iphone unless it could match what the n95 could do now as ive got so use to all the features on the n95 and use them often
its a shame nokia havent come up with an n95 beater in over 18 months
anyways everyone enjoy your phones and i hope original poster sorts his signal out ive found o2 to be quite good ata sorting problems out and if you have a faulty handset 3 times they usaully let you swap it for any handset you want 😊

its going back today - but for good - i had an original iPhone
and the new one feels just that bit more clunky and its not quite right somehow
I'm pissed at the bad network coverage - i seem to rarely get above 2 bars 3G
and never get 3.5G (assuming theres a different icon for that)
youve hit the nail on the head for me though
i find myself carrying two devices - iphone and n95
because i want the camera.mms and video functions of the n95
it every other dept the iPhone blows it away
but the app store is a huge disappointment - very few genuinely useful apps there
remote and aim/palringo, maybe omnifocus.
otherwise its largely filled with fluff - and phone crashing fluff at that.
i think ill wait 6-12 months for them to sort out the iphone
and get an iPod touch for when i want music/video on the go.
its been reported a lot that the new iphone 3G has reception/signal issues on 3G. check out this huge thread from howardforums. 47 page thread, with users from many different countries and carriers experiencing the same issue: bad 3G signal.

EDIT: and it would help if apple gave the option of locking the iphone to 3G, GSM, or daul mode. instead you can only lock to gsm, an 3G mode is really dual mode, which gives bouncing between networks.

yeah while the app store is impressive, they need some more good quality useful apps. and surely you have to have more n95 apps that you use everyday, no? there are about 8 must-have, daily use apps on mine, and they are free.
the iphone is super sexy and sleak no douby. however i can fly thru my n95 menu so fast and access anything on the phone with ease and speed. and one thing i learned was that while touch screen is great for web browsing, the n95 browsing experience is better for me because its easy one-handed use, and my thumb doesnt have to move more than 1cm x 1cm. the cursor jumps to links automatically, and the page overview scrolling speed is quick. the ONE thing that needs work is the web page rendering speed. they need to enhance the page load speed, and get rid of that sluggish period that occurs. a fresh firmware install gets rid of this, and the browser is fast again. but after use and time, it returns. that's my biggest complaint.

3 useful apps? are you serious? the n95 is practically made for apps. i have at least 25-30 useful (depending on your definition) and a few more that are fun or whatnot. did you just not like any other apps or did you not know what was capable on the n95?
Lets just remember theres Nokia/N95 v iphone threads in double figures out there, no need to start a new one. Lets keep it on topic.

Tbh I probably didn't know what was out there, but to be fair is that my fault? Nokia's D/L service sucks ass, the App Store is unbelieble in contrast.
totally true about nokia's utter failure with the download app and 3rd party applications. it must be some licensing issue where they dont want to promote apps in their download client. i dunno, cause i'm sure deals could be reached by both parties (nokia and software developers). but something is fishy. i mean there are so many apps out there, and the download client consists of practically nothing. even the free apps are ignored. apple's app store is a winner in usability for sure.

One thing that really causes the N95 and most symbian phones to be sluggish is if you have a lot of SMS messages in your inbox. It seems their is some flaw in the Symbian OS. I had my old 6680 out the other day and it was sluggish as hell until i emptied the SMS inbox of all messages and it definitely made a big improvement.
