Following our own review of the Nokia 6120 Classic, the folks over at PDA247 have put up a review of the Nokia 6124, essentially the Vodafone version of the same device and listed on pay-as-you-go for only £100. Staggering price, it had to happen one day, although the review also mentions what sounds like a serious overheating problem during 3G calls.

Pay as you go isn't the same as SIM-free though, with PAYG you're still locked to using one network. A real SIM-free phone lets you use any network anywhere in the world with compatible frequencies.
"Vodafone version" does imply that this phone has been locked to only using vodafone services.
they put a 4 in the product number
isn't that banned by nokia.
Thanks, title tweaked!!! 8-)
Take it down your local market and you can get it unlocked for a tenner. Even with the problems it's worth it as a backup phone.
Vodafone now unlock all their handsets, if it is locked, give them a ring and they will give you the unlock code for free!
I own the 6120c as a 2nd handset and yes boy does it get it hot! Will be putting it on ebay this week and looking to get the 6300 or 6500 classic!
I just tested an O2 and T-Mobile SIM and they both work in it, so it could well be unlocked out of the box... Shaun McGill

Do they do that with models that are exclusive to them though?
"Do they do that with models that are exclusive to them though?"
Well, the 6124 is exclusive to them at the moment and mine appears to be unlocked. Having said that, the heat may have broken the locking mechanism😊 Shaun McGill
The 6120c has the overheating problem too, it's not specific to 6124. When I use mine as a 3.5G modem it becomes almost too hot to hold in your hand. Other than that, it's a great phone for a bargain of a price!
If its on vodafone you can get the phone unlocked for free through calling vodafone direct. So this is a real bargin...
3 have had this deal since last October - I got a 6120 for 109 incl #10 credit then, so not much new, although agreed #15 for unlocking on top
