e90 Modem closed ports

When I use my E90 as a modem for my laptop only the port 0 is shown as stealthed all the other 1056 TCP ports are shown as closed.
I use zonealarm as a pc firewall and it is set to stealth ports over direct modem connections to the internet and only allow file sharing etc from my home and office networks which sit behind NAT routers / servers.
Can anyone help with the following:
1) Are the TCP service ports being shown on an external scan such as shields up TCP service ports on the phone or from the PC when connected over a direct DSL connection all TCP ports show stealth so I assume it is the e90 TCP ports shown which means it acts in a different way to a standard broadband modem
2) Can anyone recommend any affordable way to secure this connection, I have some pretty confidential stuff on my laptop and don't want to end up getting attacked.

Regards

Jon

Secure the information properly on the laptop then, laptops are by definition physically insecure, you should be protecting it from physical theft as much as cyber theft, doing it right for the first and you have no issues on the latter
