e90 as bluetooth modem for linux laptop

6 replies · 5,191 views · Started 07 August 2008

Had this working fine with my N80 and N95 using wvdial, pona nd kppp , tried it on the e90 and keep getting "Bad init string" and it drops the BT connection, using it via USB by just changing the dev to /dev/ttyACM0 instead of /dev/rfcomm0 and it works fine..

Anyone any idea why over BT it doesn't like the init scripts? its definately the modem thats responding with the error.

Although I do not have a linux laptop I have seen freeware for s60 that allows you to make your phone into a wireless hotspot if you have a data plan, I have not looked into it and am not sure as to whether or not it just becomes a hotspot using bluetooth but you should probably check it out, I saw it over at symbian-freak. Hope I helped

Wow. Im sorry about that i didnt mean to say freeware. Have you checked symbian-freeware? they may have something you could use. I would try to give you a solution using that software but i dont have a linux laptop to attempt it with let alone a laptop with bluetooth. Sorry again that i could not be that helpful

thanks for your response, there is a free version of joikuspot but it only supports non SSL HTTP protocol.

Its not the internal modem that is teh issue, that works fine under USB, its how the bluetooth stack seems to have a problem with it.

HAve you tried installing some bluetooth sniffing software on a PC, and seeing how pc suite sends the innit string?

ive had it working flawlessly on pc suite, but struggled when i test drove mandriva the other week for a laugh.
