Data Cable Help !!!!

hi

i need help about the data cable that comes within the 9210i package. it is a serial cable and my laptop does not have any serial port, so i bought a ps/2 to serial adapter.

my question is:

is this method gonna work ???
and what port should i use and how do i change the port to ps/2 port ??? in the pc suite.

I had the same problem with one Compaq I have buyed. It didn`t hat IR od serial.

I could not manage it, coz it needed serial.

Might be also the XP os, but depends. I think it needs serial conection.

I changed the laptop coz I love so much my 9210

If you're thinking about getting an extra cable you might also consider a USB <--> IR adapter.

There are some USB <--> IR adaptors available from Expansys on this page. Take your pick.

It may work, just try it. I doubt the computer will allow you to look at the PS/2 port for the 9210i. Your best bet is a USB-9pin Serial adapter.

😞 😞 i think i'll just stick with my other laptop 350mhz but built in infrared lol 😞 😞

btw is the usb -- infrared adapter is the only way 😞 😞 😞 😞

I believe switch is correct, and USB would be the best route to go. But i would make sure to test it first, as a friend of mine has recently purchased a new laptop which came without a serial port (why, why, why do they do this nowadays! Not all of us have brand new usb thingys supplied with our phones and other such devices!),therefore he had to buy a usb-serial cable..BUT it seems to crash the machine after about 5-10 minutes which is slightly infuriating! I have been unable to determine whether this is due to windows xp prof (no offence to the xp users out there but i deem this to be the culprit), or the cable/supplied drivers...
I shall be testing both of these theories in one go soon as i have persuaded him to let me put a win 98 partition on the laptop!

i had the same problem with my VAIO, i bought the convertor first & it did not work.... so now i have a USB-IR Port... believe me just buy the IR port...its the bst...works with everything then. i even use it to transfer pics, sounds to my sonyericsson T300, i put software on my 7650, use it with my 9210. its amazing. it can work with palm...nokia 6210 / 6310 / 8310

just get the USB-IR Port.

Cheers...

I have just come back from my friends house and have completed the testing of the USB to serial cable on Windows 98Se and it all works perfectly! Thus it leads me to believe that XP has some big issues with this cable! All you have to do is create a small windows partition (well small and windows dont go together so about a gig should do fine) and install the data suite to it and just back up your phone this way.

if you want my advice, id suggest you buy a MMC reader, I had the same problem with my laptop (no Serial port for 9pins, only USB)... my laptop has built in IR though (IBM thinkpad) but the connection is erroneous... usually disconnects after a while, if copying large files (2MB and up) also disconnects when trying to do a backup...

If u have MMC i suggest you buy a MMC reader... they cost the same as USB-DB9F converter (the nine pins end of your serial cable) also think long term... u could use ur MMC's for future phones...

I think MMC reader/writer are faster when it comes to data transfer compared to the cable...

Hope this helps. 😃
