The N-Gage platform and N-Gage website will be switched off for maintenance work on Wednesday the 13th of August (i.e. tomorrow) between 8 PM and Midnight GMT/UTC. Don't worry if you can't access N-Gage, they're just doing some repair work on it, and it will be back again on Thursday.

I wonder if this is anything to do with the recent problems people were having logging onto the N-Gage site?

Would like to hope it's because the support for the N93 is about to go live, you never know😊
It would be nice, but I suspect it really is just maintenance. There was a break like this before a few months ago and there wasn't anything special afterwards.
Yeah, I'm sure you're right, but no harm in being optomistic😉
it has been moved to tommorow (thursday)

I hope so too. Anything that can help the N-Gage userbase grow, thus getting the games more buyers, would surely encourage more qualaty titles, rather than 2nd han ports like WSOP and sims2pets.
Right now it feels like that 3rd party devs and publishers are eyeing the iPhone because Nokia is late with its promises for N-Gage, including the support for some models. I can imagine an former N73 current iPhone user that got fed up with waiting and got the iPhone as a rude gesture to Nokia.
N-Gage currently has 5 phone models it runs on, and 4 of them are variants of each other (N81&N81 8GB, N95&N95 8GB) and has 5 more phones planned, which only 2 are variants of each otehr (N93&N93i)
N93, N93i, N73, N78 and 5320 are all waiting for support. Yes, the N78 will be N-Gage compatible.

Oh great, we've just been telling everyone it's wednesday and now they move it at the last minute. 😊

All that third party publishers care about is userbase. That's why PS2 had far more third party games than the technically-better Xbox and GameCube.
Nokia could have a MUCH larger userbase than the iPhone if they embed N-Gage in all their new S60 models, especially the cheaper ones. The more Nokia delay this embedding the greater the risk that N-Gage will be a failure.
It would help if they at least put some more models in beta testing, that would show they are at least working on the problem, but at the moment we just get nothing but silence.
there is also a schedualed maintenance break for sunday which concerns buying and activating games go to site if you want more details n-gage.com
Oh flipping heck. 😞
And it affects Saturday too, apparently.
I might as well take the week off here, there's no point posting news about N-Gage stuff if the platform isn't going to be working properly.
Apparently you'll be able to buy games on Sunday, but the activation process may not work until Monday. What's the point of that? Why not just shut down the purchasing system completely?
But maybe Tetlee is right to be optimistic, maybe they're going to introduce some kind of upgrade to N-Gage next week? Probably not, but we live in hope... 😊
I feel there is also something to do with updating the games database on the website and adding the new titles to the database of the existing games which nokia will be releasing later this year !!!!!
I dont know ? Just think so !!!
Just noticed something. The GCDC 2008 conference (which is a huge game development fair in Leipzig) is starting on Monday, just after the N-Gage repair work is scheduled to finish.
Guess who is the main sponsor of GCDC this year? Yup, it's N-Gage.
If Nokia does have any big announcements to make about the platform, Monday would be a perfect day to make them.
i hope we see something big on monday. meaby N-Gage on the "coming soon" devices and a few updates to the app itself, like chatrooms.
I wish they would release some of the big games on monday too, namely ONE, WWP and Dirk Dagger. After that the next big game I know of would be the new Star Wars one.
The rest are just filler for the casual crowd. Dogz, Sudoku, Solitaire. Yup, looks pretty much like filler for me. Though if Gameloft has taken some time to develop Dogz, it could prove to be a decent pet game. Asphalt 3 isn't as good as people hoped it to be, but it's still a great racer.
Everyone has low expectations on Dogz, Sudoku and Solitaire. The only one of those 3 that can surprise is Dogz.
Anyways, Nokia should make a big release, even just more phones supported by the app on monday.
btw, anyone who plays Reset Gen: tournament on N-Gage Arena tommorow!
There are a lot more games than that on the upcoming list:
http://www.allaboutngage.com/games/
BTW I wouldn't necessarily dismiss the card games as filler, they're what a lot of phone users genuinely want to play (like Freecell on Windows). N-Gage is going to reach more than just hardcore gamers because it will be available on "normal" phones.
well, some of those titles we havent heard of for months now. Oh, and I have a strong feeling that Speed Racer got cancelled, because Speed Racer in general is fail.
Anyways, I might have chosen my words a little inceorrectly. Casual games.
I'm not too much into the Solitaire or Sudoku, but the D'Choc Hold em Poker could make Glu's WSOP bend over and stick a boot high up it's digestive system. Assuming it has some form of multiplayer.
Hmmm, monday could be a good time to announce an ETA for MGS. Just the title shouldn't be "MGS Mobile" as it sounds like a low qualaty port. Just "Metal Gear Solid" would be a lot better title. How many people are going to confuse it for the PS1 version? (Unless you play with TV out.)
well, some of those titles we havent heard of for months now.
That doesn't mean they're not happening. PTG was announced at the launch of the original N-Gage but it wasn't released until over a year later.
I should imagine they're holding some titles back until N-Gage is embedded in new models straight out of the box.
Oh, and I have a strong feeling that Speed Racer got cancelled, because Speed Racer in general is fail.
Ah well that's true, the film was a huge flop so there may not be much point in doing a spin-off game. But it probably wouldn't have been that good anyway as film-based games are usually pretty poor.

The Leipzig Games Convention actually starts next Wednesday, but you might be right, perhaps it's more than a coincidence this downtime the weekend before the event.
Certainly doesn't seem to be any obvious changes to the site at the moment and it sounds as though maintenace has pretty much finished now.
According to the GCDC website it starts tomorrow and ends on Wednesday:
http://www.gcdc.eu/
I think they said beforehand that it was just back-end stuff being repaired, so perhaps there's nothing we would immediately notice?

I stand corrected, good, so hopefully some interesting reads tomorrow then(NGage and otherwise)😊
Could be, after all Microsoft tend to go offline and do back-end updates ahead of any actual changes. Still have my fingers crossed for some news on the N93 support at GCDC:icon14:
Tetlee, it turns out you were right and so was I. There are actually two games conventions in Leipzig running back to back:
GCDC (for game developers) which runs from 18th to 20th of August
GC (for gamers) which runs from the 20th to 24th of August
Quite disappointing so far, what's the point in being the main sponsor of the Leipzig Game Convention if you aren't going to make any announcements:con?
Have had plenty of news on games and more for various platforms, but not as much as a whisper from NGage, thought they were going to push the boat out a bit at this event, ah well.
