Hi,
I tried installing emtube to my N95 8GB and during the installation process a very scary message appears:
Application Access
Allow access to:
-Read User data
-Write User data
-Use network or make phone calls
I know a lot of people here use it and love it, but this message really scares me! 😮
To me it seems like my phone could be sending all my data to the makers of emtube without me knowing it!!
Can anybody help and let me know if it is safe to install emtube?
Thanks
It's safe (assuming you downloaded the real version, which as the official site is down isn't easy to identify).
Read user data: lets it read local files (to play back local files).
Write user data: lets it write files to your phone (if you save the video - also, probably used for caching).
Use network or make phone calls: lets it use the network to send/receive data (i.e. download files, make searches).
Obviously it _could_ also send lots of information to the makers of emtube (or anyone else) with these capabilities, but I doubt it.
Thanks argh,
Will hold off for a while until, wait to see if site comes back up, if not will take the plunge!
Try using 'Mobitubia' instead. This is an excellent youtube client with a brilliant GUI and gives you much more detail when searching for clips. I find EmTube a bit annoying in the way it only shows you part of the description!
But Mobitubia has, for the past months, failed to play (and in fact crashed) on about 80% of the YouTube videos I tried to play. It also had audio glitches (squeaky effects) in a lot of the videos that it did play.
I assume that the recent Mobitubia 1.81 fixes this (it doesn't mention a sound effect fix, but does mention a lot of application crash fixes), but it hasn't been released to the public.
In the mean time, emtube works nicely 😊
EmTube USED too work very well for me as well! However, this weekend, when I was trying too play another clip, it says "File type unknown/not supported". This goes for every video I'm trying too play. Anyone else with this problem? Solutions maybe??:con?

Yes, looks like YouTube have changed something that broke emTube. It has been broken in the past, then strangely started working again.
I would move to Mobitubia, but there doesn't seem to have been a public version with fixes to the above issues in it (I think it might have been released to donators though?).
