Text Message Limits/Backup

Is there a Limit to the amount of text messages you can store on your phone? I currently have 1305 stored ( can't back up properly to computer because PC Suite and Win XP Problems ) In the c:/system/mail folder there are four main folders for text messages, only the first one is full up, does it wait to fill up the rest of them? Or is it purely memory based?

And does anyone know an alternatice to SMS Journal ( does'nt work too well for me ) for backing up text messages to a Excel/CSV File ?

Thanks for any help

There is a really cool program called MsgSaver (www.handango.com, i think) which does almost exactly what you're after. It will back up all files to a text file (unfortunately not CSV though). I am currently working on a program which displays a log of sent/received SMS/MMS/Emails on your your PC - this program will be able to export to CSV.

I don't mind giving you quick-n-dirty version of my program... this will take your MsgSaver.txt file, and then put it a CSV list. PM me if you want this...

Thanks for quick reply spikeymike, I have MsgSaver v1.10, it has never worked, it comes up with error, "Memory Full, Not enough memory to complete. PLease close some applications", which as I have other 1400k free memory space I think is crap! I appreciate I have quite a few messages and my mail folder is 500k, but it should be able to do it. I have had backup working by sending the mail folder by ir to my pc and then a batch file to sort and sort each message and then a excel macro to do the rest but it does'nt work now coz sms journal has problems ( can't export to csv ).. I would be very interested to test/use your proggie if you don't mind sending it to me!

Yep, that's no problem. I'll post it when it's (semi) finished. It will basically be a prog to take the output from MsgSaver, and put it in a CSV or Access DB. Any ideas/suggestions, post them here or PM me.

So you have full version? Don't try to save all your messages at once. Get the upgrade version 1.12 and you can filter also by received and sent messages. Have you contacted the author about the full memory situation?
If there is a bug in memory handling we must request a bug fixed version then.

I've been reading this thread and find Msgsaver very useful but what do i do after saving it as notes....using the Msgsaver program, where do i find the saved file? What is the file name? Where is it store? Thanx mates
