The N-Gage platform's first ever adventure game Dirk Dagger And The Fallen Idol is now available to download through the N-Gage application. If you can't see it in the app's showroom, click on "Options" and then "Update Now". If you still can't see it, click on "Available Games".

Read on in the full article.

And, yes, the camera scrolling is indeed there. You can move around certain areas in the game by physically moving the phone with its camera activated.

You don't have to do that though, the d-pad will work as well, and you can switch the camera off if you're worried about battery life or RAM.

Nice 😊

With Bounce Boing Voyage, Pro Series Golf and Dirk Dagger and the Fallen Idol it feels like its about time to replace my "ancient" phone and buy a new phone. A N-Gage phone.

Just a shame that none of the current N-Gage devices really interest me though, but hopefully that won't take long.

i was waiting from a long time for Dirk Dagger to release, but not going to purchase it until I get a review from AAN !!!! also one more thing -when is worms world party going to be released ?? I had read on ANN that it would be released long ago but till date no news ? looking forward towards this game too !!!

Anyone else have serious overheating problems playing this?

I had full battery and went to play this game for about 10 mins - admittedly i had the camera thing on, it nuked my battery to 0% (ok, 15mins) and my phone was HOT

I too have the overheating problem and in 5 mins (with the cam on) it's eaten away two bars of battery (the phone was fully charged and I only JUST disconnected it from the mains so I could rotate the phone with the camera)

The camera pan thing is a novelty that wore off in just the 5 mins I used it...not really worth it. I play on the train and I'd look like a lunatic. Plus with the camera open people would think I was filming them.

The game also requires ALL my memory (N95-1) as I had only Seven email client running and the game continually crashed and asked that I close other programs and restart.

I think the camera feature uses up the battery very quickly, that's why cameras tend to switch themselves off if you don't take the picture straight away.

The camera also seems to use up RAM quite a lot.

For both these reasons, I would recommend leaving the camera OFF.

The camera scrolling is just a feature to impress your mates with really, the d-pad is a perfectly adequate substitute (in fact it's more reliable than the camera in variable lighting conditions).

I had read on ANN that it would be released long ago but till date no news ?

What we said was that the N-Gage blog had said Worms MIGHT be out some time ago, but apparently they were wrong.

Basically, don't ever believe any release date unless Nokia actually issues a press release (which they don't usually do, they normally just release games without any fanfare).

Just a shame that none of the current N-Gage devices really interest me though, but hopefully that won't take long.

There should be a lot more compatible devices coming very soon when they release the FP2 version of the N-Gage application: N78, N96, 5320 XpressMusic and many other unannounced models too.

And of course there are still the N93 and N73 which are due to get N-Gage as well.

The good

Great graphics.
Good story that draws you in.
funny dialogue.
Music and sound effects were in keeping with the style of the game

The not so good

I finished the game in 2 hours.
The camera feature is a good idea but i found it a little difficult to use and switched it off after 20 minutes.
The game cost 8
It would have been nice to have vocals in the game - it would have added another dimension.
I am not sure how the rankings work or if there are bits of the game i have missed.

Conclusion

I liked it a lot but felt it was to short for 8. Having said that i would like to see more episodes and would be tempted to purchase again.

Ok so I see someone else has the heat problem with this game. I'm also using hte N95-1.

I purchased it already of course... but, should i assume that if i play this game I need to be connected to a Mains plug?

I mean i just played another 5 mins and it got so hot, i just plugged it back into mains and its recharging a lot. It was just full 5 mins ago...

UPDATE

For those of you who have finished the game already but want more Dirk Dagger;

There is a mobile comic on the dirk dagger website go to http://www.dirkdagger.com/ and click on the telephone you can download the comic to your desktop - it is a sis file that you install on your phone.

This is really good quality game - and i love the extras.

BTW when you do complete the game don't forget to check out the game menu's extras section which will have several new features unlocked.

I purchased it already of course... but, should i assume that if i play this game I need to be connected to a Mains plug?

You don't need to be on a mains plug, I played the whole game on one and a half charges (which was approx 2 to 3 hours of gameplay in total).

You might need the mains plug if you want to use the camera scrolling the whole time, but like I said before it's probably best if you just use the direction pad instead. You can switch the camera off from the options menu, and it's off by default.

You don't need to go to the bother of using the SIS file, the actual comic is viewable on the site by clicking on the comic on the floor at the right of the screen. The front of the comic will appear, and you just click in the corner to turn the pages.

It's actually much more fun to read the comic on your computer screen than the SIS file on your phone, the SIS file is just a cut-down semi-animated version of the comic.

Hmm... I'm just wondering if Dirk Dagger is leaving the camera switched on even when you've asked it to switch off.

The N95's camera button doesn't normally light up when playing games, but it DOES light up when playing Dirk Dagger.

I have the camera option set to "No", the camera shutter is closed, and the camera app isn't running, yet the camera button is glowing while playing the game.

This could be the source of the heat that people have noticed (and I did notice it getting pretty warm too).

I read this as Dirk Diggler. That would make an enjoyable game i'm sure 😊

i think even with the camera feature is switched to off the camera is left on b/c the lights stay lit up and stays hot .
i liked this games but why are some of the locations not used and remain locked,i think they cut out a lot of game play b/c also there is dropped characters in the dev art feature in extras which was probably from them locations.
i think you can look at dev art once you complete the game you'll see alternative dirk daggers etc and dropped characters there is also other features in extras after completing it but i'll let you look for yourselves

It's fairly common for adventure games to have stuff cut from them before release, it's a bit like films in that respect.

It's odd that they left the locations in the map though, AFAIK you can't get to the railway station or city hall yet there they are.

not sure ppl keep mentioning future chapters and add ons but theres no official word they are even going to exist.
also it says nothing about extra's on the game page in n-gage showroom ,games what are getting extra's/add-ons state it
so it's all a bit of enigma

I think people are just assuming there will be future chapters because that's how a lot of adventure games are published nowadays.

AFAIK there hasn't been any official announcement about sequels, though it would be nice to see one.

While in fact I do regret my purchase now (Full game).

The first problem that occurred was that I didnt get the activation email with my activation code in it.
Unfortunately this is not the first time.
This happened right before their maintenance work and have lasted until now.
When I bought the Bounce Bounce Voyage and Reset Generation both of these games never gave me an activation email back.

Im beginning to see red here.
As a paying consumer I get this right in my face?
If thats the case I rather tend to pirated
materials than support them.
Things should work.

Theyve worked since First Access (Which I did try) up until the maintenance work and now it have gone straight to the underground.

I have of course sent mail again to congested which is an admin at the forums.n-gage.com site and asked him kindly to send me the activation code for Dirk Dagger.
That said its not like I cant activate the game which I do.
Its just that the overall experience that you also get the receipt (Like when buying things at a store) is totally missing.

The whole experience is therefore ruined so to speak as I use programs like Roboform and Handy Safe to store such information on my laptop and mobile for backup purposes.

Another aspect of this is that what if my phone should fail or things on my phone gets corrupted tomorrow?
Then I have no way of activate my games again because of the lack of the activation code which I never got.
I dont even have a backup of the data neither in the clouds or locally.

Another thing which stills bugs me as a consumer is that there is still absolutely no way to backup the N-gage data from your phone to another place.
I know you can use the backup option in the memory manager but that backs up everything and restore sometimes to often fails on many things.

Besides maybe you want separate backups of different things.
The backup in memory manager creates one file, and you can of course rename the oldest backup file from default name. That is both tedious and is not prone to errors.

So the only better solution to backup things is in fact that you have to hack your phone and access the c:\private\ folder and then extract the content from another folder.
Most users arent able to do that and this is also tedious.

And when such different small things adds up you get furious consumers like myself that goes mad because of one more little thing.

Thats mainly what I mean with that the overall experience is ruined.

I really like to support them with purchasing games but getting such things right in the face, makes me rather want to wait for the pirated version to appear rather than being an early adopter and buying the games.

The only thing missing to make the volcano blow is that if I should try to contact the costumer service and transfer my n-gage licenses to a new phone (when I get one).
Ive already lost the hope there to get a decent support from them from my experience.

Hope I hear from the admin soon as I really demand answers this time. (Like if the error is on my side then Im of course to blame, but I want to know what is going on. Such as technical difficulties?, which is not very rare these days.)

if you pm a admin on n-gage forums probably best to message congested ,he can retrieve your activation codes, send him user name and imei and he will private message you your codes
no point going to 3rd party sites moaning btw its best go to them b/c then they can sort it for u and try solve the cause of your problems

As I said I've already sent congested a pm.
I did in fact try not to moan, but as this issue have happened a total of three times. I think I've been fair enough.
The last three games I bought Reset Generation, Bounce Boing Voyage and Dirk Dagger all have given me the trouble of
not getting the activation email sent.

They did solve the problem with Reset Generation and Bounce by providing me activation codes.
But still as a customer I'm left with nothing more than that.
What I want is answers to why or what went wrong in the process, which they haven't provided me.

If the asking of activation codes is some sort of DRM implementation then
1. You won't get a receipt over things you have bought.
(Which you in every other case does, whether shopping online or on a store).
2. You have to depend on them to get the activation codes (and in the future to get games activated).

This is just a theory of course but taken the account that they can check if you have logged into the arena and what games you've bought I wouldn't exactly throw away my thinking.

You see I don't want to be at the mercy of someone to get things I've bought to work.

I've checked with the official forum and the pm I sent congested have been read. However he haven't replied yet.
I hope he contacts the other crews / members and tells about this problem as I find it quite weird and frustrating that such thing happens.

Wampyre, don't tell us about these problems, post about them on the official N-Gage sites.

If you're having such serious setbacks with N-Gage then it's best that you let Nokia know about them, they're the ones you should complain to, and the best way of doing that is on the official support forums:

http://forums.arena.n-gage.com/nokia?category.id=supportforums

Or if it's about an individual game post on the released games forums:

http://forums.arena.n-gage.com/nokia?category.id=ReleasedGames

Or if you want to make a suggestion for changing the platform, vote for it on N-Gage Feedback (which is an official Nokia site):

http://ngage.uservoice.com/

You are a LOT more likely to get problems solved on the official sites than on AAN.

AAN is a totally unofficial site, we have no control over N-Gage at all, we do not have any connection to Nokia.
