How do I fix microscopic icons?

On my old e61i and now on my e71 I have found that some installed applications show up with tiny icons, much smaller than any of the other apps.

On my brand new phone the offenders are Opera Mini and Gmail.

Has anyone any idea how to bring them back to normal size?

Both are probably Java apps. You can reuqest the original developer to fix it, or start hacking the original .jar files for the application icons (or hope that someone else does it for you and the developer).
