I'm not sure which model to upgrade to. I've cut it down to the Samsung Innov8 and the Nokia N85. Please don't mention the N96...
Innov8 pluses:
*Bigger screen at 2.8"
*A tinnny weeneee better audio chip (did you know Samsung uses the same/similar audio chips used in ipods/iphones...)
*Probably has better speakers if past Samsung phones are anything to go by (Symbian).
*Available now on o2, Orange and soon T-Mobile through the Carphone warehouse and their sister/aunt/nephew company mobiles.co.uk
N85 will probably appear a couple months later on contract
*Free on contract from 30 per month now
*More storage (built-in 8GB on current model + expansion slot)
*Best camera quality (not just talking about MP here)
N85 pluses
*OLED screen (much better colours and wider viewing angles)
*Possibly better battery life due to OLED and a smaller screen
*A much smaller phone
*It's a Nokia which means DIY firmware updates + Nokia only services
*Slightly better dual micro-optimised flash. Whatever that means... 🙄
*Probably end up slightly cheaper than the Innov8 8GB on contract
*FM Transmitter
*USB charging but not much of a plus for me
Anything I've missed?
MODS, please can we have a Innov8 and N85 section?
I'm just upgrading from an N95-1, but not sure what to do. There's nothing that interests me available in the upgrade list at the moment.
If it was available, I'd probably go for the N85 for the nice screen / same features as N95 8GB / smaller.
As it is, I'll probably get a Winmo device (Diamond, as Raphael isn't available from my provider either), or maybe N95 8GB.
Sad that there hasn't really been much progress in the last year and a bit in the Symbian world. N96, as noted by most people, is a huge disappointment in particular. Still really enjoying the N95 though.
E2Save pat of Carphone warehouse now have the 16gb innov8 available on both Orange and O2.
On O2 the phone costs 149.99 on the O2 200min tariff at 25.00 a month.
Get mine on Tues
😊
Thanks but I need 500mins+ per month. I would rather go for the 8GB version. I looked at other e2save deals but the 16GB version seems too expensive compared to the 8GB...
MicroSDHC (32GB max) expansion means there is very little difference between the two. One will max out at 40GB and the other 48GB...
I would go with the Nokia if it was available within a month.
Decisions, decisions. :con?
I am also considering these two phones as my upgrade but am also half-tempted to hold on for the HTC Dream.
Am interested to hear the input of fellow N95 users
The S60 platform came to an abrupt stop when the N95 arrived, with nothing happening since then.
I know of quite a few people, including myself, who are ready for something new to happen, but it looks to be far out in the horizon. I have been experimenting with a few downgrades/sidegrades just to make something happen, including the HTC Diamond and the iPhone 3G. Nice devices, but as an overall package I don't think anyone seriously can consider them upgrades over the N95.
So find yourself a nice sidegrade, or stay with the N95. Upgrades are impossbile right now, because there is none.
iam with o2 and they offered me a good deal on a 30 day contract rolling untill a new phone came out that i liked it might be worth considering if you can wait. as for the n85 i think its going to be a top device with that oled screen and fm transmitter shame it dosent have an xenon flash like the n82 though , but iam sure the dual leds will be ok and night time recording could be handy for the partys i attend , i choose a 12 month contract with them instead and got a brand new n95 iam sure there will be something out in the next few months that will tickle your fancy xmas is coming up
my upgrade is due in aprill so i know at least the n85 will be running smoothly by then and there may be other handsets out there
iam just waiting for the 16gb cards for my n95 that will add a few more months onto the ownership of it with all them extra movies and mp3s 😊
if samsung havent got an online updater service id avoid it at the min as we all know that symbian handsets my need firmware tweaks when bugs are reported this could be a hassle without online support
not me.
Just got my 8G 4 months ago and think its awesome.
Waiting for a substantially different phone rather than marginal improvements here and there.
Are you rich ? Or money just burning your pockets ?
What do people think of the Samsung Omnia as a N95 replacement? On paper it looks ok but what about the Windows OS?

Um, neither, but I have had my N95 for 18 months and since I can now start a new contract, get a subsidised phone fairly cheap, and fancy a change, I thought I'd see what fellow N95 fans thought would represent that.
I'm happy to wait a couple of months for something that is a worthy upgrade though
I'm trying to decide between the Samsung Innov8 and the HTC Touch Pro.
I have an N95 8GB right now (N95-1 before that) and I love it (most of the time!) but I'm entitled to an upgrade and O2 don't charge me for it, so I'm going to change my handset, just because I can. 😊
Although the Innov8 looks great on paper, I am drawn towards the HTC, just because it'll feel like more of a change, if that makes sense.
I know what you mean, I am seriously thinking about getting the Samsung Omnia now because there is no real 'upgrade' to my N95 so I would rather get something that represents a different type of phone.
I understand fancying something new.
How about holding out for Nokia touch phone coming out in 3 to 6 months. I have a feeling you will wish you had waited. Nokia has to do something soon and I have confidence but no proof, that they are going to wow the market.
The Innova looks cool.

O2 let me upgrade FOC every 6 months (because I spend so much), so I'm lucky in this respect - I can take an upgrade now and something new in 6 months too.
A Nokia touch screen phone would be very cool. 😎
judders how much do you spend mate??
iam o2 select customer on a 12 month contract , i spend quire a bit to hence why iam a select customer i can only upgrade every 9 moths like this ,
hoping you can help me get he same sort of deal id love to upgrade every 6 months 😊
also o2 dont seem to have the innov8 or the omnia at the moment infact i thimk their newest handset is the 6220 classic
just checked their online store but guess thw shops could be different
i heard the carphonewarehouse were sstocking them both at the min though allthough i wouldnt leave o2 and tey do the best deals direct ive found , mms included in your txt allowance and vid mins included with your normal mins :-0
i dont think anyone else does that they all charge seperate for data stuff apart from o2 i love being able to video call people and not have to pay for it 😊
vodafone and orange defo charge the earth for video calling like 50p a min , they also charge for mms messages which are roughly 35p each which is annoying
o2 charge 4 of your free txts for evey mms and video calling is charged the same as normal calls so you can use video calling as your free mins 😊
sorry about drifting off topic but yeah o2 dont seem to stock the omnia or the innov8 at the mo
INNOVA looks awesome however "Ive been there done that already" with the 320X240 screen rez and will not buy another one.
In a world of higher rez screens anyone buying this antique screen is not being wise.
If the scren rez were better I would say these upgrades are more then just marginal since you have the 120fps video and the 8mb camera. But the low rez screen kills it for me.

I'm an O2 Select customer on a 12 month contract too.
The fact that O2 let me upgrade every 6 months has kept me with them for the past 4+ years, it's a major point for me, as you might expect. 😊
My monthly bill ranges from 200 - 500. Every now and then it'll drop down to 150'ish, but I think they look at your last 3 months when calculating how soon you can upgrade.
Hope that helps.

No wonder!!
After 3 months you pay as much as someone on an 18 month contract.
Im suprised you dont glow in the dark from all that usage.
