The Nokia N96, which includes the N-Gage application built into its firmware and has dedicated gaming keys, has now started making its way to retailers and should be on sale very soon. You can find out more about the phone in our sister site All About Symbian's hands-on preview, and they've also done an N96 video preview too.
Read on in the full article.
This is where the new N-Gage platform really launches!
This is the first N-Gage-compatible device to actually launch with it on-board, so everyone who buys an N96 will have the N-Gage application automatically, they won't have to install it manually.
This should greatly help attract casual users to the platform, and generally build up awareness that it exists at all (many people still think it's just the first gen N-Gage phones).
Incidentally, if you like the N96 but think it's a bit expensive, you might want to wait for the upcoming N85 which is very similar but has a much lower price.
i liked the design... but i prefer N95 8gb... so i will wait =D
i dont care about dvb-h! =D
i care about OMAP 2 =D
As I mentioned above, if you want a similar design and specs but without the DVB-H you ought to look at the N85 (which is also N-Gage compatible).
This aphone no have graphic chip so has no future with n-gage (or me!)
omg n96 does have 3D hardware the specs been updated so i think we'll soon find out that n85 will have it too lol

You're looking at the specs instead of the games.
Do you honestly think the graphics on this look bad for a phone game?

If you can admit these look good, especially on a phone-sized screen, then you can admit that you don't actually need a graphics chip.
Portable games are about having fun, not having the best graphics.
The Nintendo DS has outsold the PSP many times over, but the PSP has MUCH better graphics
Going back a bit, the Game Boy outsold the Lynx and Game Gear many times over, but the Lynx and Game Gear had MUCH better graphics.
Why? Because people don't care that much about graphics on small-screened portable devices.

Wow, that's a turn-up for the books...
I wonder if this is what was suggested earlier, that the 3D hardware was always present but Nokia hadn't paid the licence on it so they couldn't activate that part. Maybe they've now decided to shell out for the licence after all, so the firmware is allowed to switch on the 3D hardware?
i'm totally surprised by this b/c they kept silent over it while ppl was complaining lol
i'm happy to know the idea of 3D hardware as not been dropped b/c we'll see good games on future devices what get bigger screens like the new touch brand they are producing for next year
b/c they plan to make them n-gage too i heard but i hope a D-pad remains
Haven't had this graphics chip thing confirmed, but I've asked someone who might know and they're looking into it.

I was thinking about this actually, and I think it would be fairly easy to keep the touch-based phones compatible with the button games.
All you'd really need is a d-pad at the bottom and two gaming buttons at the top for the button-based games, with touch-based games controlled directly from the screen itself.
Almost all the current games run off the d-pad with one or two gaming buttons, and many of the games can run entirely off the d-pad without any other buttons (Creatures Of The Deep for example).
Only interested in PowerVR at the end of the day they have struck some amazing deals with Apple and are inside majority of OMAP 2 and 3, yet Nokia are totally ignoring them, how can they be so foolish? Ask Intel, TI, Samsung, Renesas and others whiy they licenced the tech and look how great the iPhone UI is, what on earth is Nokia's game?
agreed PowerVR or not worth buying!
