Programs working / not working on i8510

First let me say that the included version of Route 66 does not include any maps these have to be paid for as an extra - still worth it as I think its a very good sat nav prog.

I have also installed CoPilot 7 without any problems.

Webgate Advanced Device Locks again no problem.

Handy Calculator
Handy Calendar
Handy Alarm
Handy Safe

All work fine

Handy Profiles - screwed up my phones on/off key only way I could switch the phone off was to remove the battery.

DivX for mobiles works fine but no advantages as far as I can see over includer Real Player.

Will report others as I try them

Handy Safe won't sync with the desktop version (at least not on my system). Have you tried syncing? I've been in touch with Epocware and the good news is they're working on a version that's compatible and it'll be out in about a month.

Oh, and CuteKeys doesn't work and the developer has no plans to release a compatible version. 😞

I'll be setting up my 8510 properly this weekend so I'll also report which progs do and don't install or work properly.

I cannot get Best Screen Capture to work.
Installs fine but the assigned combo keys won't work and it won't let me choose any other combination :frown:

The only issue I have had is I cannot get it to synch with my N95 8Gb, not sure if that is a bug or not. The Bluetooth is OK but very occasionally has a mare.

Did anyone get a proper manual, all I got was a pretty useless quick help guide?

Nope which is a joke. I emailed samsung and got this reply:

"In answer to your query, you can download the software and the manual for your phone from the main Samsung website, http://www.samsung.com/download/agreement.htm
Click on Agree to Terms & Conditions. Enter I8510 into the search box and click Go. You may have to take the step-by-step product search route instead, depending on the browser.

On the next page, click on Mobile Phone GT I8510 8 or 16GB. This will bring up a list of all the available manuals which can be downloaded to the computer.

Next to Manuals, there is a grey box with Software in blue lettering. Click on that and it will bring up downloads of PC Studio software for your model of phone"

I found this so I selected the camera key which works well but you have to exit the app when you have finished with it to return control of that key back to the OS.

bowman if you look in the i8510 thread on Mobile Review someone has posted a direct link to the manuals after I asked about this.

Thought I'd start a list of working and non-working apps and games;

Got my phone the other day...upgraded from N95 8Gb. Excellent camera, here is a compatibility list of apps so far;

OpenTTD for Symbian - Working

Transport Tycoon Deluxe...on your i8510! A blast from the past. Great game. Requires the original datafiles; check on the internet for more information. Glad this works. Nothing more geeky than running ones own transport company lol. Fast too; as fast if not better than the N95 8Gb

Slingplayer Mobile for Symbian - Working

Works very very well indeed, over 3G and Wi-fi. Watch your Sky Digital, PVR, Freeview etc. over a 3G or Wi-fi connection and control the box from your Samsung i8510.

(REQUIRES A SLINGBOX, 30 DAY TRIAL IS FREE - REGISTRATION REQUIRED AFTER 30 DAYS)
