Hi,
it turns out that if you ( like me ) load your memory card up with music ( i have 7gb of music on card ) then you lose the ability to browse ringtones. Remove the card, and your ringtones are available again in profiles.
Its taken me about an hour to figure this out, hopefully this post saves someone else the grief.
