Route 66 for i8510/Innov8

As this phone has only just been released, I think I may be lucky to get an answer but here goes...

I'm trying to set the phone up for turn-by-turn navigation.

Despite the fact the phone suggests you have the "world map" unlocked out of the box, it would appear you need to purchase the UK & Ireland maps to obtain full navigation functionality.

When I try to purchase this, the phone tells me I have insufficient memory. The filesize is approx 250mb and I have over 3gb left on the hard disk.

I can only assume it's trying to add it to the phone memory of which there's only around 50mb available but as it doesn't give you the option as to where to save it, I'm stuck!

I'll be seriously impressed if anyone has a solution to this problem as it I'm fairly handy with symbian and it has me stumped.

I asked this exact question several days ago on another site and, although plenty of people agreed they were having the same problem, no one had a solution.

The solution (and it's not the best in the world) is to buy Route 66 from your PC (the price is identical), then you download the map to your PC and transfer it to your phone.

Sucky I know, but seemingly the only way to do it.

When you say download it to the PC, do you mean from a CD?

All I can seem to find is to order a CD to be delivered to home which seems even more ludicrous!

I also can't find any way of purchasing and downloading it from their site. Also the price for UK maps on the phone is 49.99 and the online price is 59.99 plus shipping so if you do end up buying the physical media it ends up costing quite a bit more than they are trying to sell it to you for on the phone. There's definitely a balls up of some description here.

The main program for Route66_v8 is on the phone internal memory the "z" drive.

I purchased the UK maps from Route66 store via my phone and downloaded it direct to the phone via wlan. The file goes to E:\system\Apps\Route66_v8\Data\Maps but you can only see it on the phone with something like Y-Browser as the standard file manager prog on the phone won't see system folder.

When you buy Route66_v8 as a disc you get a program to install on your pc which connects to your mobile and lets you buy maps etc of the internet from R66 store, download them to the pc and upload them to the phone. For this to work you have to have the phone connected to the pc via the usb cable in mass memory mode. This only connects to phone drive C the mass memory and as the main program on the phone is on drive z it won't connect but once you have downloaded the map via wlan to drive c it then connects with no problem.

Would you be kind enough to post the direct link to download the maps straight to my phone, I'll give that I try.

Thanks for the tip!

It's in the Route 66 program itself

open route 66
options
Extras
Maps
route 66 store

I only did this because I had wlan, If you pay your network provider for downloading data be careful as its alot of data

Aha.

I think we had our wires crossed. That is the method I attempted only to be told I had insufficient space on my phone (which I don't)

I'm looking either for an alternative way to download the maps OR a way to stop the daft phone from trying to download the software to internal memory instead of the hard disk or SD card. :frown:

I have (legit) map files as I had Route66 on N95, but cant remember where to save them on Mass Memory?

Couldn't figure out why I had no problems downloading the UK map to the phones 16gb memory, especially as I did not set anything or tell it were to put it. So I thought I would try it again with the map for Spain. Started downloading without the phone being connected via the usb cable and it was all going fine till I saw that my battery was very low so I plugged the usb cable in to my laptop and did not select anything i.e just cancelled when it asked for pc suite mass storage etc and I then got the message from Route66 that I had insufficient memory. So I disconnected the usb cable started the download again and got no such message then plugged it in to the wall charger and it carried on downloading with no problem.

So try again on phone battery power only and report on how it goes

Any news on this? The same is happening for me. Am not connected to PC when trying either. Aaaargh!

P.S. Don't know if this might be something to do with it but my i8510 drive letters according to the File Manager App are:

C: Phone Memory
E: Mass Memory
F: NO NAME (Memory Card)

If you have any ideas as to why the maps won't download PLEASE please please let us know. Cheers!
