I am new to the Symbian platform and some of what i describe may be expected but not before experienced (if that makes any sense).

I am a little disappointed with the Samsung I8510 and have have several problems installing software.

- Garmin XH - installs icon, fails to start
- Tom Tom Nav 6 - Installs, hangs on splash screen

These are both on media cards (with valid licences)

I dont wan to pay for a third sat nav system (Route 66 maps) as I have the other 2!

Also is it possible to remove the installed by default progs? (Fring, Route 66, GyPsii) which I am never going to use........

If those programs are part of ROM, no, you cant delete them. If they are installed software, then the answer is Yes.

yup they are in the ROM (after a bit of FE exploring).

I guess a firmware flash from Samsung would do they trick?

Any ideas on the Sat Nav install problems?

Check one by one software, on support pages of each one, if that phone can run the GPS programs... not all are compatible phones. Could be that:con?

Many thanks fro your help.

The phone runs Route 66 V8

I have installed the newest Tom Tom 7, also 6 and Co Pilot 7 (which another poster on here claims tp be using) all failed.

The Garmin XT (claims again to work) wont start......

I can find any manufacture site that references Symbian OS v9.3 - is it a case of "to new for mass market to work"?

Thanks again

I think we are both suffering from early adopteritis I'm afraid 😃

These programs will have to be updated, along with some others, to work on the new Feature Pack 2 release. Many N78 users have been complaining about similar things on some software - mostly involving the installation of PIPS which; although said to be preinstalled on the phone; is curiously causing many FP2 users problems.

I have compiled a list of working and non working apps on this very board. :icon14:

I have Co Pilot 7 on my i8510 working with no problem at all

Using the phone connected via usb in mass memory mode I loaded the following folders to the root dir of c
2577
Private
Safety Cameras
CoPilot
Resources
Sys
Unconnected the cable and the program loaded up
asked me for the purchase code
gave me the phones licence fee
went to on line registration - gave the purchase code and licence number and got activation code
went back on the phone inserted activation code and all worked fine.
Loaded the map via CoPilot central on the pc

Hope that helps others a bit

Thanks for your post, are you sure you mean "C"? From the USB connection you can only load to the mass storage or the memory card (if inserted).

I have follwoed the steps as you have described them, loading the folders onto the memory card and the 8gb storage.... nothing happens.

Don't think it's possible to remove them BUT if you want the icons out of the way in the Apps folder (you can't delete the icons either) you can create a New Folder in the Apps folder. Call it "Unused" or something. Then you can one-by-one use the "Move to folder" option to put the icons in that folder so they're not cluttering up the Apps folder. No more accidently opening crap like Gypsii!
