i always tick the lot, and consequently it takes hours just to get a back up from my phone.
It is still on backing up "user files from a memory card" and has beenf or past hour.
Just wondering which things should be backed up during a back up proceudre and which can be missed?

NEVER restore a backup after a Firmware ugrade!
With that in mind, you should instead do a PC Suite Synchronization instead to backup your contacts, calendar, notes, Web shortcuts etc.

people always say this. ut i have updated my firmware 4 times since getting my n95 8gb and have had no problems restoring everything. In fact i still have spiderman3 and all my apps.
Why would nokia create content copier if it does not work?
I use nseries pc suite.

That's lucky for you. If I had 10 for every time an AAS user has posted a "help" thread after restoring a backup after FW flashing, I could give up my day-job.
Perhaps PC Suite Content Copier is more reliable than the restore using the Memory Card tool in the handset? Either way I wouldn't trust either program myself.
Most of my apps (stored in the memory card) automatically re-install after a FW flash, and those which don't I can re-install manually with the SIS and JAR files.
As for Spiderman 3, yes it's a good movie but I have it on DVD and don't want movies on my phone. How many times will you watch it on your 2.5" screen?
