Hi,
Having firmware 4.13 I got used to not having a constantly resetting commi, but this morning I woke up on a dead one. It was switched off (both phone side and PDA side) and did not respond to the on/off switch. Remembering a post somewhere on this forum I put in the adapter and that brought the system to live... Anyone had that experience?
As a contextual note yesterday and now today I had/have problems with the signal strength. It is very low and sometimes my home-network cannot be found. Not having the NetMonitor I can not test it but only see the strength bar at the left of the screen. With the carkit the signal seems fine.
It seems as if opening the cover has a positive effect on the signalstrength! Closed cover = 0 or 1 bar, Open cover 3-4 bars. Same location!. Any ideas?

Just joke.

what adapter is that dude?
want to know what to do in case it happens to me.
The AC power adapter to charge the battery. (And no... it was not empty, just push it in, switch the phone on, and pull it out).

The other option if the charger isn't nearby is to short the battery contacts. Though this only happened to me once, fortunately.

Yes! I thought my communicator had died (pangs of fear rushed through me when I realized how long it was since I last made a backup!) when the blasted thing acted completely dead one morning. I ran to my car and plugged in the car charger and voila! it came back to life. Still haven't figured out why on Earth that happened, though....
On a side note, this behaviour seems kinda like some of the 6510s and 8310s with earlier software revisions....they would just act completely dead, except they can only be revived by a flash to newer software....
Yeah I have had 4 9210's and the signal strength is always better with it opened up. Must be something do do with a design fault?
I have the same effect, opening the device also has a positive effect on signal strength (only one bar). I once had this problem with my 9110i, which appeared to be a faulty antenna coax cable in the hinges.
Perhaps the signal is stronger because the ariel is in a vertical position rather than a horizontal one. Not sure if this makes any difference, just a thought.

In my test I keep the phone side in exact the same position when opening the Nokia.
" The other option if the charger isn't nearby is to short the battery contacts. Though this only happened to me once, fortunately".
I would like to add that you must NOT shortcut the batterycontacts, BUT the metal pins off the phone, making contact with the battery.
(just for the non technical among us)
Hi all,
Regarding the reception it is not the angle since, like Richard, I tested with an open and a closed 9210 having the antenna at the same angle. The coax-cable was on my mind too (it might even be that it is not defect, but folding it raises the resistance). However it gets weirder and weirder. Yesterday suddenly the signal went up from nil to 4 blocks. And today it is up and down. So I think my local network is playing up on me too.
Regarding the shutdown
I too have no idea whatsoever caused this, but it is worrying. I have the mobile turned on because I need to be reachable and nothing is warning me the phone is off. Now two posts indicate this happened at night - did anyone experience it during working hours?

Yeah I've had 6 9210 Communicator replacments over the past 7 months since it was first launched, they all kept on crashing and comin up with the message infomrtaion overlaod, this a daily occurance, I've told those PRATS at communicate many times but they aren't bothered in reapiring the phone so just send me out a new one everytime, i have major problems!
I'm hoping that they'll send out the new 9210i, the next time, it'll save me spending 850 buying one!
Well... what it was we'll never know. I brought my Nokia to the service center of my network. They looked at it and my service contract, pulled a new one from the shelve and I could leave without any payment or waiting time. Excellent!
