This has been around for a couple of months now, but not seen many mentions of it here......So if you dont have corporate email and use MfE and would like to test out nokias own client instead of emoze etc etc this is the place to be...
let us know what you think if you try it out..
looks interesting.
i currently use an E61 (on "3"😉 and use their mobile mail
pushmail service. it costs me 2.50 per month for a 10MB
allowance which is pretty reasonable.
i'm going to be upgrading to a N95-8GB next week, and this
in itself will increase the cost of my monthly tariff without
adding mobilemail. will the nokia pushmail app be free?
Ste
the app is free yes, although its a beta stage app at the moment.
Its not definately going to stay free though.
There are other free alternatives out there so they may shot themselves in the foot if they price it/price it wrong.

could you point me in the direction of the free pushmail clients?
if i can't manage to get "3" to give me mobile mail for free with
my upgrade i'll have to consider using one of the freebies.
thanks.
Ste
check out emoze. The client is free but like anything, you need to pay for your data if you arent on an all inclusive.
Theres also roadsync
am I being stupid?
N95 all ready has the ability to send and recive POP emails, (i have it set up) so why would you need this ?
James.
The point is that it can push e-mails to you instantly and it doesn't have to keep connecting to check for epost. The nokia server does that for you several times a minute.

yeah, what shug said.
But no, your not being stupid.... you just missed the word 'push' which is the bit that makes it different from the handset client. 😊
Also, if Nokia are now providing the ActiveSync app for all phones, there's the sites that offer free exchange hosting, such as mail2web (there are others too).
Isn't RoadSync an alternative to ActiveSync, i.e. a client rather than the backend needed for push email?
yeah, it is... its based on ActiveSync technology.
& I agree, mail2web is a useful site to know too FR3344LL
I've got this up and running. Now I have the 3G symbol permanently showing as connected (logically enough I suppose). What sort of impact do you think this has on battery life?
thanks for the numerous links guys....much appreciated 😊

The impact is dependant really on the 3G signal. If its a good signal then the impact is low, tho there is still an impact. If you keep loosing 3G and the handset switches between 2G/3G, that will suck the life out your battery pretty quick unfortunately.
The best way is to suck it and see. 😊

quick update but yesterday this was on a 60 day trial rather than open ended beta from their front page.
That now seems to have gone back to just 'trial' tho...

I use MobileMail on 3 and it doesn't seem to cause much battery drain. You can't really shut it down as it just starts up again, but it does stop the connection if it detects repeated GPRS connnections (this happens when it loses signal completely and then gets it back repeatedly), which I suppose might reduce its power consumption and prevent the problem Kontraband is mentioning. Not sure if other apps work in the same way.

i always leave mobilemail paused in the background on my E61, but press and
hold the *red* button to stop the 3G connection once i've downloaded any
new mail. it's just a case of holding down the menu button, select mobilemail,
and resume.
i'll be changing to a N95 8GB next week and know that i can use the above method
with that phone too.
tbh, i'm not the most heavy of phone users anyway, i just like to be able to
read my emails during the course of the day without resorting to using webmail
apps or waiting to logon back at home.
