The screen light still goes out after about 10 seconds though

Are you sure that you've changed the light time-out?

That works fine for me, and goes up to 60 seconds (I imagine that you should press a key at least once every 60 seconds if you're playing a game!)

you should just use an app called smartlight which keeps the screen illuminated forever as long as you have something shown on the screen. if you go to homescreen the backlight times out like normal.

Or S60SpotOn if you want it to keep the screen illuminated even on the homescreen. (Not sure why though)
