HandWave - a new application by Samir

A video is currently available at AikonLab.

I imagine that it's using the front camera, so will use up battery quickly when in use.

Neat idea, but I'm not sure if I would ever actually use it. The example for presentations was quite good - he needs a way to trigger it to play those video files, though!

its pretty cool. id use it, not often, but when showing my holiday pics to others. i use (or used till it came with firmware) rotate me and nokmote.

oh n wud be good to trigger the vids by moving hand up n down.

The other application - alert me- was not good. too slow to respond. u can pull battery out in that time.

Thanks for pointing that out - alert me wasn't on the site when I first posted it.

Was it just me or did the "disarm" sequence say left/vertical/right, but he disarmed it with left/right/vertical? 😊

I guess that the idea is that someone wouldn't know that the alarm is running. If they did, they could probably just switch the device off (quicker than pulling the battery?). More importantly, if someone is going to steal a device (in public, at least), they're likely to run off with it as soon as possible. You might not even be able to hear it by the time it goes off.

It could work well against more subtle thieves though. I wonder if it disarms when a phone call comes in? It would be annoying to have to do that disarm sequence before you can answer your call.

It said left/vertical/ right. But going from left to right in one fluid motion u would have to physically go past vertical anyway.
So in video he actually went left/vertical/right /vertical again to hold phone straight so u can see screen.

Its still too much of a pointless application. As soon as u pick it up it should start flashing and only give 1 second to do the motion.
This is plenty of time since its highly unlikely that a slow person is the type to manually add such an application (or know any app even exists for that matter) to their phone.
