hi i was just wondering , i have not updated my phone for along time but i remember the last time i did , everything on the phone was deleted and just gone.
which was annoying what i'm wondering though dose this have to happen everytime.

some of the phones now have user data protection where when the firmware is updated all your personal info is still there. the n82 has this now. but nokia has not yet rolled this out to the n95's. eventually i think all of them will have this. but for now, yes you still lose all your info when you firmware upgrade.

If you run PC Suite Synchronisation, then all your Contacts, Calendar, Notes & Web Bootmarks can be save to your PC.
Run Synchronisation again after the FW upgrade to copy these items back into the handset.

As long as you store all your media files (pics, vids, music) in the Memory Card they are not overwritten during the FW upgrade.

Finally, if you install all apps (where possible) to your memory card, then most of them will automatically re-install themselves after the FW upgrade. (JAVA files don't automatically re-install).
For those apps which do not automatically re-install, hopefully you have the SIS/JAR files so you can re-install them?
(I keep copies of all install files in a folder on my memory card in case they are needed in the future)

Hope this helps.

im using the n95 so it is no memory card just built in phone memory but 2 sides as in the actual phone and the actual big memory

are you sure it won't delete my stuff because i have too many good photos memories, too many songs , so many recordings

Do you mean you are using an N95-2 8GB black?
If so, the Mass Memory is treated as you would a Memory Card (except it's not removable). Therefore if you upgrade the firmware the memory is not affected. If you are at all worried then just Backup using the Nokia PC Suite.
