Do you have a TV-Out cable? if so plug it into a TV and plug it in and press the left softkey ( I think )
If you get a picture then its possibly a dodgy screen or the ribbon cable has come loose.
Can you back up with the usb cable? And if you have Microsoft Outlook you can back up all contacts to the contacts folder and view them there. And if you get a new phone you can transfer the contacts over.
