Reset Gen has had some alterations made to the gameplay as detailed over on the official N-Gage blog. The changes are to the abilities of various characters to make them more balanced, for example many people complained that the Monster Trainer was too hard to beat so its powers have now been restricted somewhat. The changes only apply to the online game, and have been carried out entirely on Nokia's servers, so you don't need to update your copy of the game.

It's interesting that these changes can be made entirely on the servers, without requiring the users to download any patches or anything like that, and also interesting that they're bothering to do this. It's always nice when game publishers listen to user feedback.
Yes, plumber was obviously flawed from the start and the vast majority of players were monster trainer.
The requirement for the rules to be on the server were clear, to limit the cheating. Nice to see them take advantage of that for these tweaks. I'm not a big RG player but have enjoyed the odd game.
Shit! The only character that I could win with was Monster Trainer! BTW, it's interesting that they can change rules without players doing anything.

That was exactly the problem, people were complaining that matches were full of MTs and if they used any other character they lost. The idea of the changes is to encourage people to use a wider range of characters.
(And apparently in the very first prototype versions of the game the MT was even more powerful, with unlimited monster boxes built into the character (hence the backpack in the drawing).)
Guess I can start playing the game again now, shame they didn't upgrade Hedgehog's special power though.
I think they made cyborb a bit too strong. Against a good player plumber's special can become useless and i hated using him. I like the change to loverbomber. MT- i remember four player matchs that i often had three monster trainers as opponents and before my second turn i would have died already and i was enclosed by enemy blocks. The only way to beat them was to reduce the number of combos you made and you could not use your special if you were the elf. I think the hedgehog is balanced and pretty useful. The ninja is the character that requires the greatest skill and pre-planning to use effectively. My favourites are the hedgehog and the ninja and my least favourite is the sci-fi knight and the level 50 elf.
The monster trainer is still strong. I won 6 4-player games yesterday and only lost two. Everyone is using cybrog now but lot of them don't know how to use his power in the right place. So if you're good with monster trainer, keep playing with her.
I think that's part of the balancing problem, what an experienced player can do with a character may be totally different to what a new player can do, and some characters are easier for new players than others.
If you know how to use a character properly it may be a lot more powerful than you thought.
