Bad use of WLAN

Hello,

I'm a very happy symbian user since 6600 (even doing c++ devel). I just got a N81 sd, which is even greater compared to my older phone, especially thanks to WLAN capabilities.

I just upgraded the phone to the latest firmware because I experimented strange WLAN behaviours. But they are still here.

- WLAN networks are not always found.
- It is sometime needed to reboot the phone so to make WLAN work again.
- Applications using WLAN at the same time are not able to re-use the already existing connection (Internet Radio, Web Browser, SIP, ...)
- For instance, while I was playing Internet Radio through WLAN, it was impossible to find a WLAN Network for the Internet browser...

I already tried stuff like Wefi, Devicescapes and some other wifi helper with no more success. What I experienced is that the registered (mine) or automatic (wefi, devicescape) AP sometimes disappear from the choice list given by the application even though another application is using them (or not), the phone beeing next to the AP. This behaviour is the same with every AP I was using (WPA, open, open/hidden...)

Either something is unfinished, or I'm a real n00b regarding WLAN management in Symbian s60-3.1.

Do you have a better experience ? or any advice ?

Thanks everyone

david

1. WPA encryption is more reliable than WEP in my experience.
2. If you restored a backup after the FW upgrade, you made a big mistake!
(It's OK to use PC Suite Synchronisation but not OK to backup/restore).

Try removing your memory card then formatting the internal memory. If WLAN still doesn't work well you may have a hardware fault in your handset...

Hope this helps.
