Problem with Nokia N95 8GB GPS (EU in America)

Ok, this will sound a little strange.

I have the nokia N95-2 ( i think ) which I bought from Germany this summer, however - I am using it in America under AT&T. My problem is with locating a GPS Satellite. And calculating my position.

During my stay in germany, whenever I would load up the Nokia Maps 2.0 interface, it would always have the flashing yellow bar for the GPS signal and say "Waiting for GPS signal forever" I thought it was due to my location and that the phone doesn't work in germany.

I now have been america for one month and the same thing still happens!!! I was reading on the forums and they said to go to the menu and go to GPS Data. All it does is load up the "location, etc" tabs and when I go to GPS details it says "No GPS Details availible"

I have the GPS functions checked off in the settings->positioning menu (Except for bluetooth)

what should I do? I want GPS to work on my phone!

If it didn't work in Germany, and doesn't work now in the USofA, then the hardware could be faulty.

If you don't have v30 firmware yet on it, you could try upgrading ( http://www.nokia.com/softwareupdate ) but if that doesn't help either, then I guess it is Nokia repair center time for your phone. (I've used my N95 8GB and its GPS in North America, Europe and Asia; so far it has picked up satellites in all locations).

If you have ever upgraded or de-branded firmware then restored a backup , you could experience this (and other) issues.
If that's the case, you should perform a hard reset (don't restore a backup afterwards - use PSC Suite Synchronisation instead).
Alternatively, you could re-flash the firmware, to see if it solves the problem.

The first time you use GPS (after a FW upgrade or when new) the Nokia can take up to 30 minutes to obtain a lock on your position.
It's best to place the handset somewhere with a clear view of the sky, and do not move the handset during the lock process.
You need to open the slider as the GPS receiver is behind the keypad.
After a succesfull GPS lock, future GPS lock takes usually 1 to 2 minutes (without A-GPS).

If none of the above is relevant, or it doesn't help, then I would say your GPS is possibly faulty, and you should take the handset to a Nokia Care Centre for repair.
