Newest PC Suite that runs on win2k

The newest PC Suite doesn't run on win2000, does anyone know the newest that supports 2000?

I've had a quick search but nothing much is coming up. I have run it within the last year on the PC I am using right now, so it cannot be too old.

thanks 😊

I've looked at the change history on Wikipedia, and the newest page that shows Win 2000 still is 7.0.7.0.

But, this is the newest version that I already downloaded.

I went further until the version changes, maybe they didn't remove windows 2000 support from the page, that version is 6.86.9.3.

Found a link, and it is letting me install: so I just answered my own question.

MS have stopped support for W2K so programme makers have to stop too as they will not be able to get the support for it

I haven't bothered to try, but if they would let it install onto win2k, it would probably work still. Just a silly little flag in the installer really.

This really peaves me really, specially when a programme is based on .NET (i'm not saying PC Suite is .NET at all, im moaning about something else) and it only supports XP+ etc, the whole piont of .NET is cross platform meh, idiots microsoft, 1.1, 2, 3 all at once isnt funny. BAH</finishrant>

PC Suite is not .NET. The N-Series Suite is though. But what difference that makes I have absolutely no idea.

More to the point, why are you still using Windows 2000? It is no longer supported. And if you are using it at work then there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to still be using it.

I'm surprised that PC Suite is the only program you have trouble with.

Hi,

Nokia PC Suite 7.0.8.2 does not have compatibility with Windows 2000 and hereafter forthcoming nokia pc suites will also wont have compatibility with windows 2000k

I left my PC in the middle of typing a post and the board session timed out so I lost my post, but a summary as follows.

My .NET comment was an unrelated generic rant.

Also, I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to upgrade (or pay to upgrade for that matter).

Windows 2000 still has support, and will do so until July 2010. Who cares about Microsoft support anyway, its rubbish, other than bug fixes. Not that there are more patches win2k than there are for XP and win2k is much older.

We run 2000 at work, I am an Admin here so I could run XP if I want. I run XP x64 at home so I'm not some MS hater.

Other programmes do block installing on 2000. VS .NET (both 2003 and 2005) do this, but there is a flag in the installer to let it install. They both work fine, and lots of developers are still using it on 2000.

Other games sometimes "dont work" on 2000 from the standard install, this is usually because some dlls it use only run on XP, so if they are changed for the 2000 versions it works easily. Some others its just a case of minor patching, and or just allowing it to install. UT, R6, COD4 are examples of games that run easily but are "not allowed".

PC Suite would probably run anyway, it will only not run if Nokia decide to use some XP specific APIs etc, but its this kind of attitude that will never see PC Suite released for Linux.

NT5.1 is hardly any different to NT5 anyway.

It's not like Nokia is a software company anyway.

cricfancy,
I know that, that is what I said in my first post.
