Hi, maybe someone has an idea what my problem is.
When i'm connected to my home network through wifi i can access the full desktop version of youtube no problem.
When i'm on the 3.5g HSDPA connection (vodafone uk), i get redirected to the mobile site (m.youtube.com). No problem, right? Just click "view desktop version" at the bottom, right? Wrong! This link does try to load the desktop version but it just redirects to the mobile site again.
Any suggestions are welcome!

It works for me, both ways, but have you tried to go to http://www.youtube.com/?nomobile=1 ?
Also, have you tried the bookmark on the N96, under Browser --> Bookmarks --> Video --> YouTube ?
If that does not help, it sounds to me that YouTube tries to be smart and send you to the mobile optimized website if you are accessing it via the operator service... 😞
Thanks, i tried that out right now but it still redirects me to the mobile site.
I tried the full URL my desktop would use which is http://www.youtube.com/?nomobile=1&client=mv-google&gl=US&hl=en and it still goes to the mobile site.
Same thing when i use the bookmark 😞
Fortunately i've found mobile youtube to be OK... Actually it's quite crap for searching videos but if i know what video i want it's not too hard to watch it.
As for actual browsing youtube like you're used to on a PC, nah it's just no good for it.
:edit:
I've found kind of a solution, you gave me the idea of a bookmark so i got the actual URL of a desktop version youtube video and saved it as a bookmark. It's opening in the full site, so i can use that as a starting point to search for other videos.
Woopee!
Now to keep an eye on the data packet counter... Damn Vodafone's 500mb/month limit!

Great it worked out.... so what URL worked for the bookmark - did you have to use the URL of a specific video, or did some URL like http://www.youtube.com/browse?s=mp (I just copied and pasted this from the PC browser) work fine?
500 Megabytes or millibits? 😎
It was just the URL of a video.
It's not playing nice now though, it doesn't want to load the flv most of the time when in 3g.
