Hi,
perhaps somebody can help me: My PC at work got Windows 2000 professional, and I tried to sync the phone with IR. Didnt work, and searching the help file I found "WIN 2000 does not work with IRCOMM devices". So what can I do? Any way to connect the phone to a Win 2000 PC with infrared or other connections?
Infrared under Win 2000
Freddie666, I have NT 2000 pro on my laptop and this is the only way I have to communicate to my 7650 via infrared !
Domi.
Freddie,
I use Win 2000 and IR for syncing my 7650.
I am aware that there are two different IR standards and hence drivers that you can use.
I am using IrDA which works fine, you may need to see if there are IrDA drivers for your hardware from your laptop manufacturer, this may work.
Otherwise ensure that your IR adapter appears in device manager and that it is all working correctly.
Then try the Wireless settings icon in the control panel to see if you can send and recieve data.
This is my best advice without knowing more about your machine and setup.
Good luck

Thanks for the hints. Thats strange. My IR device seems to work, the device manager says everything ok, I checked this yet. But the Nokia Connection Manager doesnt recognize the 7650, it tells me "no phone connected". At home with WinXP I had no troubles at all, it worked fine from the first moment. The PC at work is part of a LAN network of about 12.000 PCs, so I cant change Windows setting. Perhaps something is wrong with the settings ...
Again I have had some problems with mrouter detecting my phone, sometimes it can be worth turning the IR detection off (by unticking the box) and seeing if you can send a file direct from the phone to the laptop via IR.
If this works, remove the 7650 from range so the connection is dropped, now go back into mrouter and re select the IR port.
Now start IR on the phone again and see if it works with PC suite.
Worth a try I suppose

Ok thanks, I will try this tommorrow at work 😊
I have a Win NT laptop and mrouter can identify the 7650. It changes the colour but once I fire up the PC Suite, it throws a message box and asks me to connect my phone to PC. Any solutions ?
freddie666,
I had the exact same problem, but got my the infa red port to work by dowloading service pack 3 for win 2000. This service pack includes a fix for the IR comm problem. should work, it did for me.
Hi Freddie, I've got w2000 sp2, and it set up and configured itself without any intervention! Did you activate IR on the 7650? On my PC (an IBM laptop), the IR picks up any device automatically, so once IR is activated on the nokia, the IR icon begins to flash at the bottom right, and off we go!
(Maybe I'm just very lucky, I've never had a problem with PC suite, nor for that matter with W2000 - millions of problems with previous window versions)

This is how it works at home with Win XP - and how I expected it for Win 2000 too 😊 ... but it doesnt ..
