A few general questions about the N95.

Hi all....I have a few questions I hope you guys can help with.

My sister has an N95, not the 8gb, the normal one.

1) When was the latest official firmware released for it? Has anyone noticed any significant improvements in battery-life/general stability? Also, is 'auto-rotate' feature included as part of any official firmware? Or do you have download a seperate piece of software? Ideally, she would like the phone to function, so that when she is watching a movie, and turns the phone to landscape, the movie does also. At the moment, the movie plays in portrait by default, and she has to slide the face up or down (I forget) to change the landscape. It would be great for her if she could just turn the phone and have it change like with the I-Phone....

2) Can the DivX player work without custom firmware/debranding? I am reluctant to debrand as I understand it invalidates your warranty, which is risky.....

Following on from that.....is the DivX player even worth it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the N95 can only handle resolutions of 320x240, most of my avi files are more than that so I would have to convert them anyway, in which case I may as well convert them to mp4 which would play in the RealPlayer included on the phone....

3) Is there yet a stable/official method of getting the BBC Iplayer to work on the phone through home wireless? If not, is there one planned?

Thanks for reading and more so for any help provided....😊

1. The latest firmware for the N95-1 (classic. silver) is version 30. Input *#0000# from the standby screen to ascertain your firmware version.
Version 30 is the first one to offer Auto-Rotate for this model.
It is anticipated that operator branded phones will have this version released in due course. However, this may take weeks or months depending on your operator.
You can check here to see if you have the latest firmware applicable to your device:-

http://europe.nokia.com/A4577224

2. You can download free a DIVX player here:-

http://mobile.divx.com/divx

3. There is a thread on the iPlayer, (of sorts) here with a download site, that works on the N95:-

Hope this helps. 😊

Many thanks for your reply Ian. That has cleared up a few things for me....

She is on T-Mobile....and version 11 firmware. Is the latest firmware available for that contract yet?

Would you say it is worth upgrading to that firmware? Are there known issues with it yet?

Thanks again.

EDIT: Also, if there are 'issues' with the latest firmware, what is generally considered the best option..and is it possible to choose to upgrade to that one as opposed to the latest one?
