N96 Product Code

I've just receiced my N96 from vodafone and VOIP is disabled so I want to debrand. Does anyone have a product code I can use, (I'm in the UK)

With my N95, I found that if I did a full backup of the phone to memory card, then restored my backup to a branded phone, then voip would work without chaging the product code. With this is mind is there any way around the problem???

Cheers

Jim

What VoIP service are you normally using?

On your N96, if you go to Menu --> Download! --> (Choose WLAN connection) --> Applications, you will find:

Fring
Free VoIP to Skype, MSN etc.

Eqo
Chat on MSN, Google Talk, Yahoo, QQ, ...
Their own VoIP service

my product code is 0573063

UK CV Dark Grey

i bought it sim free in the nokia store

as yet i can't update the firmware.

theres no voip shipped with the sim free version either.
or IM in fact the application folder is virtually empty

actually IM is there still
not that i ever used it.

hidden away in tools/connectivity
where internet telephone is on my N95.

as far as i am aware there is no voip support as there was on the n95/n95 8gb, tho it may be possible to add it using something like fring.

just opened mine after it was delivered by vodafone, and man am i dissapointed.
They have crippled the device to the point i may aswell just be using an n95.

no access to the dvb tuner, amongst other restrictions/ammendmants to the firmware version, and the phone is very slow too, i know that nokia have gone with a less powerful processor, but the original release of the n95 with all its bugs seemed smoother.

i am going to unbrand it and update the firmware, as there is a version 11 out already, that is reported to make the naviwheel work, cos at the moment its just a d pad!

I've not tried plugging it in to nss yet, so i dont know if it'll find it, but if not, and all the nokia drivers are on, nss may need updating, will let you all know.

All very disapointing isn't it really.

Interested to hear how you get on with NSS, I had no luck, but that could be my install.

so, just flashed the product code with nss....no problems.
updated software updater and then plugged the phone in, it recognised the need for the upgraded firmware (v11.) installed it, all went fine.

Phone reboots, and its still horribly slow, try the media key, nothing happens.
restart the phone, this time the screen goes blank like its thinking about it, then nothing, reinstall the firmware....same thing.

so...new firmware, still no naviwheel, loss of media button, so i cant check if the dvb tuner is there (it is available in the uk, in very limited spots at the moment, o2 started testing in 2005, and would be nice to have for when abroad), still very slow.

more concerning is that while i have a spare battery from the old n95, nokia have shipped the phone with a travel charger (in car). Does this suggest their lack of confidence in the 950 ah battery to last a day to anyone else?

just about to phone vodafone and tell them to come and collect their pos.
its basically a shinier n95 8gb, with more memory, lesser camera, slower, and buggy. Nokia are reportedly releasing a second firmware upgrade imminently.

no its not - there were tests in oxford and cambridge - which are finished
its not an operator thing - its digital tv broadcasting. so it will be channels that do it not mobile providers. they have their own varying quality streaming over 3g services.

ive not had any battery problems.

Hi bought this on T-mobile today changed product code to 0568238 then updated through nokia software updater but i still have tmobile menu icons? How do i get rid of these?

just change to the nokia theme in personalize-> themes.

i suspect theres a t-mobile theme its using.
the new firmware updatre doesnt wipe things like that out.
useful if you are using a custom theme

I think the update is only a little 1 has it leaves all user info!! so it will not debrand.. maybe a future update will do that!!

Hi, i got my brand new N96 yesterday from T-mobile and tried to debrand today using NSS. Unfortunately, the software could even retrieve my mobile's details after clicking the scan button talk less of debranding it. It just gave an error message. I tried again using my old N95 and it worked so i know the software is not at fault. Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem or are T-mobile able to block NSS

I have just done the same (I have a t-mobile) but then followed it up with a hard reset. seems to be an improvement on before and the media button works.

Just changed my Vodafone N96's product code to 0568238 with NSS (1.0.38.14), NSS found the phone with no problem. Ran NSU and it updated to 11.101, followed it up with a hard reset as there were hidden applications and locked APNs still.

All fine with no trace of Vodafone!

Jimster wrote:Does NSS work with the N96?? I'm having problems getting it to find my phone

i had the same problem with NSS, all i got was an error when trying to read my T-mobile N96, however the next day i tried it worked straight away, maybe its because of turning off PC and restarting, i also downloaded the latest version of NSS, hope this helps

Anyone have a full tutorial on updating the firmware??? I have installed the Nokia software and NSS. I run NSS and it reads my phone. I enter a new product code, click enable then write. Everything goes to plan until I open the nokia updater. Foe some reason, it keeps telling me that my phone is not connected, when it clearly is. Can anyone help me with this???????????????????????????? Why isnt the updater picking up my n96????
