Loyal, N95 user, looking to make the jump away from N96 to the i8510.
so here goes.....
BBCi player over 3g? can i get it? is it watchable in a good reception area?
Price, CPW just quoted me 399.95 odered over the phone. Can anyone in UK better this?
Are the standard apps any good?
I know this is a really strange question, but can you install Nokia Maps on this, as i still have 200days of my guidance subscription left😮
Again, what about Nokia OVI?
I have a few programs that are essential to me, will they work on this because it's symbian 3 or are programs "phone" specific?
This is probably what will make the descicion for me
Apart from storage memory, is there any other difference between the models?
iPlayer at the moment ONLY works over WiFi. It's up to the BBC whether they enable it for 3G networks as well. Remember this will be the same no matter what phone you buy.
CPW are the only people to [officially] have the 8510 in the UK at the moment (e2save are part of CPW). Any other retailers will probably be charging more than CPW.
Nokia Maps and none of the OVI applications will install on the 8510 - this is because Nokia has currently locked them to run on ONLY Nokia branded S60 handsets. It may be possible for someone to hack the correct certificates onto the 8510 (but unlikely) and Nokia may choose to open up Maps and OVI to other S60 phones, but this is purely speculation.
The built in apps are very good, and Route 66 is a more than capable competitor for Nokia maps (it's actually a much more mature product)
Storage memory is the only difference between the models.
The price seems quite good, for what the phone offers.
But i really need to find out wether programs that are stated as Nokia N95 will install.
I suppose i'll just have to hold off and email the makers of the programs i HAVE to have running on my phone.

Buy a N96 then.
Poor battery life is annoying me on the I8510, so i am going to sell it.
i8510's battery life is fine. It just shows it differently to N95 and others.
N95 showed full for ages, then very quickly went from nearly full to empty.
i8510 shows much more realistic levels.

I agree.. bear in mind the I8510 is a new product... remember how naff the battery life of the original N95 was when it was first out.. its fantastic now and my aged N95 can easily get thru a full weekend...
no doubt future FW updates will only improve things 😊
Hah, if you say the INNOV8 has bad battery life, then N96 would be worse; I wouldn't think you would actually recommend that over INNOV8 for that reason. No doubt the INNOV8 does not have the longest battery life as compared to other phones, but N96 is definitely not in any case better. At best, it will last up to 70% of what the INNOV8 can...
