Money for upgrade. But which way to jump

6 replies · 2,476 views · Started 01 October 2008

Simple sounding question......BUT

Nokia N96 or Samsung i8510

What i use my phone for, (apart from the obvious, phoning and texting)

1/ Using Trimble Geocaching App(http://www.geocachenavigator.com/)
2/ Taking pictures
3/ mobilcast App (http://www.mobilcast.com/)
4/ Shozu (www.shozu.com)
5/ Oxygen Phone Manager (www.oxygensoftware.com)
6/Listening to music
7/nokia Maps + guidance (as backup for my Tomtom one)

I work a 28 day shift pattern, so the ability to set up events to happen every 28 days is VERY important

And i want to be able to watch BBCi Player

Comments / Advice needed

I dont think Nokia maps is available for the samsung yet - AFAIK none of the Nokia apps are (sports tracker, conversation, etc).

This might have changed though.

Personally, I would hang on for a month or 2 and get the N85, which on paper looks so much better than the N95 in almost every way.

sorry, I've edited my post....meant to say N96

+1 to wait for the N85.

I'm due an upgrade but I'm trying to wait patiently for the N85. It's not easy but I've heard a lot of disappointment from the N96 owners, so that makes the waiting more bearable.

Mind you it's very early days, so the N96 problems will all be sorted by firmware upgrades. I'm sure the N85 will have its fair share of early problems too.

Well, i took a look at the N85, and actually thought the N96 was nicer.
But what about the Samsung i8510, i'm really surprised that more people havn't opted for that, with the VERY tempting slim size and feature pack 3 and lastly the 8mp camera.
It appears to be about 100 cheaper than these other two as well.

It may not be an issue for you, but the i8510 doesn't support Nokia applications.

That means no Nokia Maps (free gps) and no Sports Tracker (among lots of others), which rule it out for me.
